O.J. Simpson was cremated on April 17, 2024, at Palm Mortuary in downtown Las Vegas. His estate attorney, Malcolm LaVergne, said Simpson’s brain would not be donated for CTE research.
What happened to O.J. Simpson’s brain?
LaVergne said Simpson’s entire body, including his brain, would be cremated. In a statement quoted by The Guardian, he said: “His entire body, including his brain, will be cremated.” He also said there would be no brain donation for research into chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).
When was Simpson cremated?
The Associated Press reported on April 17, 2024, that Simpson had been cremated that day at Palm Mortuary in downtown Las Vegas. LaVergne confirmed the cremation to AP. The report said Simpson died on April 10, 2024, aged 76.
Does the decision establish that Simpson had CTE?
No. The reports describe a decision not to donate his brain for postmortem CTE research; they do not establish that Simpson had CTE. His 11-year career as an NFL running back, noted by the Associated Press, is background information and is not a diagnosis.

The reporting also does not show what a postmortem examination might have concluded. Without the donation and examination, these accounts provide no basis for a medical conclusion about whether Simpson had CTE.
