The dispute also raised questions about director Shane Black’s decision to cast a longtime friend without informing Munn, other people on the production, or the studio.
What happened to Striegel’s scene?
Striegel appeared in a short scene as a jogger who repeatedly flirts with Munn’s character. After Munn learned of Striegel’s history, she alerted Fox on August 15, 2018. Fox said it had not known about his background when he was hired and that it removed the scene within 24 hours of learning the details. The cameo does not appear in the released film. Contemporary reporting on the scene’s removal covered the sequence of events.

What was Striegel’s conviction?
Contemporary reports said Striegel pleaded guilty in 2010 to offenses involving attempts to entice a 14-year-old girl into an online sexual relationship and served six months in jail. These details are reported accounts; the reporting cited here is not an independent review of court records. Variety’s report on the conviction described the case.
Why did Shane Black cast him?
Black had known Striegel for years and had cast him in earlier films, including Iron Man 3 and The Nice Guys. Black initially defended the decision as an effort to help a friend. He later said that he had been misled after reading further reporting and apologized for failing to give others a voice in the decision. ITV reported Black’s statement: “I apologise to all of those, past and present, I’ve let down by having Steve around them without giving them a voice in the decision.” ITV reported Black’s apology and Fox’s response.

Munn said she was surprised and unsettled that Black had not disclosed the information to people on the production. In a later account, she described feeling isolated and unfairly treated after speaking publicly. Those descriptions reflect Munn’s account of her experience.
