How Pips works
Pips is a digital logic puzzle built around domino-like tiles. Fill the board with the supplied tiles while meeting the rule in each colored region. Depending on the region, its pips may need to add to an exact number, match, differ, or satisfy a greater-than or less-than condition. Tiles can be rotated. The game labels its boards Easy, Medium, and Hard. For an overview of the rules, see Tom’s Guide’s Pips guide.
Easy: hints and answer
Hint: The regions require totals of 9 and 4, plus a greater-than condition. The solution uses four placements.
Show the Easy answer
- Number (9): 6–1 vertical; 3–4 vertical.
- Equal (4): 3–4 vertical; 4–5 horizontal; 4–1 horizontal.
- Greater Than (4): 4–5 horizontal.
Medium: hints and answer
Hint: The board includes an Equal 0 region and a Less Than 3 region. The 0–1 tile appears in both the Number 3 and Equal 0 placements.

Show the Medium answer
- Equal (0): 0–0 horizontal; 0–1 vertical.
- Less Than (3): 2–3 horizontal.
- Number (3): 1–1 horizontal; 0–1 vertical.
- Greater Than (3): 6–4 horizontal.
- Equal (4): 4–4 horizontal; 6–4 horizontal.
Hard: step-by-step hints and walkthrough
The Hard walkthrough works across three regions totaling 9, a Blue 6 region, and the remaining constrained areas. One proposed way to organize the 9 regions is 6+3, 5+4, and 3+3+3. Stop at any step if you want to keep solving on your own.
- Place 2–1 from Orange <3 into Blue 6. Place 5–0 from Blue 6 into Purple 0, then 0–6 from Purple 0 into Dark Blue 9.
- Place 3–4 from Dark Blue 9 into Green 9, then 5–3 from Green 9 into Blue 9. Put 3–3 in the remaining Blue 9 cells.
- Place 2–2 into Orange =. Put 0–0 in Pink 1, then move 1–0 from Pink 1 into Dark Blue 0. Move 0–2 from Dark Blue 0 into Pink 7.
- Place 5–1 from Pink 7 into Purple <3, then put 2–4 from Green 2 into the central free tile.

Why the year matters
The dated answer guides identify October 29 as the Wednesday, October 29, 2025 puzzle. The research timestamp is October 8, 2026, so the 2026 October 29 board had not yet occurred at that point; these placements should not be treated as answers for that future date. The available Easy and Medium placements are also published in Mashable’s guide syndicated by Yahoo Tech.
