How to read these NYT Pips answers
Pips is a domino-placement puzzle: place every tile on the board while meeting each colored region’s rule. Regions can require an exact sum, matching values, different values, values greater than or less than a threshold, or have no rule. Tiles can be rotated to fit. The walkthroughs from Technobezz and Tom’s Guide describe these mechanics.
EnergyPips reports that the April 6, 2026 puzzle has 5 dominoes on easy, 7 on medium, and 12 on hard. Coordinates below count rows and columns from the upper-left, starting at 1. Each pair identifies the two values on a domino; the listed cells show where each half goes.
Easy Pips answer: 5 dominoes
Hint: The top-center single square is marked =6 and is forced. The 3-3 double fits the all-equal region.
