The New York Times Connections puzzle for Sunday, June 22, 2025, is game #742. Below are progressively stronger hints, followed by the complete groups and all 16 answers. Stop before the spoiler section if you are still solving.

How to play Connections

Connections presents 16 words that must be divided into four groups of four sharing a common theme. The categories are color-coded by difficulty: yellow is generally easiest, followed by green, blue and purple as the trickiest. Because some words can appear to fit more than one theme, the intended connection is the one that uses every tile exactly once.

Hints for Sunday, June 22 (#742)

Use these in order, stopping when you have enough help:

  1. Yellow: Think of words for a breaking announcement or news update.
  2. Green: Look at nouns from a famous line in the Declaration of Independence.
  3. Blue: These are shows from a major television network.
  4. Purple: Consider different meanings of “left,” including direction, politics and departure.

Spoiler: the complete answers

The 16 tiles divide into these four groups:

Color Category Words
Yellow News announcement BULLETIN, FLASH, REPORT, WIRE
Green Nouns from a famous line in the Declaration of Independence HAPPINESS, LIBERTY, LIFE, PURSUIT
Blue HBO shows ENTOURAGE, EUPHORIA, INSECURE, SUCCESSION
Purple What “left” might mean DEPARTED, PORT, PROGRESSIVE, REMAINING

Yellow: NEWS ANNOUNCEMENT

BULLETIN, FLASH, REPORT, WIRE can each describe a news announcement, update or dispatch. “News flash” and “news bulletin” are especially familiar phrases, while a wire report is a dispatch distributed by a news service.

Green: NOUNS FROM A FAMOUS LINE IN THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE

HAPPINESS, LIBERTY, LIFE, PURSUIT come from the Declaration of Independence’s phrase “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

Blue: HBO SHOWS

ENTOURAGE, EUPHORIA, INSECURE, SUCCESSION are titles of HBO series. The group is based on the network association, not on a shared genre or plot.

Purple: WHAT “LEFT” MIGHT MEAN

This group uses separate senses of “left,” rather than four synonyms. DEPARTED means someone left; PORT is the left side of a vessel when facing forward; PROGRESSIVE can mean politically left-leaning; and REMAINING describes what is left over.
