Spoilers: the Connections answers for June 15, 2025

The four categories were:

Color Category Words
Yellow Slang for coffee BREW, JAVA, MUD, ROCKET FUEL
Green “Aw, heck!” BLAST, CRUD, CURSES, FUDGE
Blue Considerations for movie ratings ACTION, LANGUAGE, NUDITY, SMOKING
Purple What “pop” might mean BURST, FATHER, POPULAR, SODA

Yellow: slang for coffee

BREW, JAVA, MUD, ROCKET FUEL

“Brew” and “java” are familiar informal names for coffee. “Mud” is a more colorful term for a dark, strong cup, while “rocket fuel” suggests coffee potent enough to power you through the morning. MUD was likely the least familiar entry in this group, making it a useful word to watch for when solving.

Green: “Aw, heck!”

BLAST, CRUD, CURSES, FUDGE

These can all work as softened exclamations when someone is annoyed or surprised. “Blast,” “crud,” “curses,” and “fudge” let a speaker express irritation without using a stronger swear word. The category’s jokey label, “Aw, heck!”, points toward that euphemistic function rather than a literal relationship among the four words.

Blue: considerations for movie ratings

ACTION, LANGUAGE, NUDITY, SMOKING

These are types of content that may be considered when a film is classified or discussed in relation to its rating. The group does not mean that every movie containing action, language, nudity, or smoking receives the same rating. It identifies content factors that can affect how a movie is rated or perceived for rating purposes.

Purple: what “pop” might mean

BURST, FATHER, POPULAR, SODA

This was the wordplay-heavy purple group. “Pop” can describe a BURST or popping action, “pop” can mean FATHER, and “pop” is a shortened form of POPULAR. In some regions, particularly parts of the United States and Canada, SODA is called “pop.”
