How Connections works

Connections is a free daily word game available on the New York Times website and Games app. Players sort 16 words into four groups of four by identifying a shared connection. Forbes’ guide says an incorrect guess costs a life and four mistakes end the game. It describes yellow as usually the easiest group and purple as usually the hardest, often involving wordplay; that is a general tendency, not a fixed rule for every puzzle.
