Why the groups can be tricky
- CROWN belongs with the tree features, even though the word can suggest other kinds of objects.
- SALAD does not appear in the grid. Instead, CHEF, GARDEN, GREEK, and WEDGE are kinds of salad.
- The coin designs group is specifically about the backs of U.S. coins.
What Connections asks you to do
Connections presents 16 words and asks you to sort them into four groups of four based on a shared link. The grid can be shuffled, and words may appear to fit more than one category; four incorrect guesses end the game. A new puzzle is released at midnight. The game is available through the NYT website and Games app, including on desktop and mobile.
