Why the word bank could mislead
CRUNCH, THRUST, and PUSH-UP suggest another pattern
CRUNCH, THRUST, and PUSH-UP can all evoke exercise, but they belong to three different groups here: CRUNCH is a chocolate bar, THRUST means gist, and PUSH-UP is a kind of bra. The category is not “workouts.”

Two groups rely on specifically American references
The chocolate-bar group includes US candy brands that may be unfamiliar to some players outside the United States. The purple group uses BIG, EARLY, LADY, and SUE as words that precede “Bird”; SUE refers to basketball player Sue Bird.
What contemporary coverage reported about the solve
TechRadar’s Marc McLaren, its Global Editor in Chief, described his own solve as hard and reported making three mistakes. He noted that, as a UK-based writer, he did not recognize PAYDAY, CRUNCH, and DOVE as chocolate bars. Forbes contributor Kris Holt also described getting stuck on DOVE, CRUNCH, PAYDAY, and SUE Bird. These are the writers’ individual experiences, not a measure of how difficult players generally found the puzzle.
