Green Torus-shaped things BAGEL, LIFESAVER, TIRE, WREATH

Why the word groups fit

Yellow: official sanctioning

Approval, blessing, consent and support can each express permission or endorsement.

Green: torus-shaped things

A bagel, lifesaver, tire and wreath all have a ring-like form, with an opening in the middle.

Blue: bad golf shots

Hook, shank, slice and whiff are terms for errant or failed golf shots.

Purple: footwear minus the “ER” sound

Each word can be made into a type of footwear by adding the sound “er” at the end: loafer, slipper, sneaker and wader. The connection depends on sound, not simply removing the letters “ER” from the written form.

How Connections works

Connections asks players to sort 16 words into four groups of four based on a shared connection. The four colors indicate different difficulty levels. Players can make up to four mistakes, and wordplay or misleading overlaps can obscure the intended groupings.
