These are the hints and answers for the Saturday, October 25, 2025, edition of NYT Connections, puzzle #867. Start with a gentle nudge and stop before the spoiler section if you still want to solve it yourself.

How Connections works

Connections gives you 16 words to sort into four groups of four based on a shared link. Each puzzle has one solution, though some words may appear to fit more than one category. The New York Times Help Center says yellow is the easiest group and purple the trickiest; that describes the game’s color coding, not a required solving order. NYT Help Center: Connections.

Gentle hints for October 25

Here is one anchor word for each group, in the order of the color categories:

  • Yellow: FLEECE
  • Green: ALARM
  • Blue: ACCORD

Spoilers: full answers for puzzle #867

The complete groups are below. The October 25, 2025 grid and these groupings are reported by Forbes’ dated guide and independently matched by The Word Finder.

  • Yellow — Swindle: FLEECE, HOSE, HUSTLE, SHAFT. Each can mean to cheat or defraud someone.
  • Green — Digital Watch Features: ALARM, DATE, LIGHT, STOPWATCH.
  • Blue — Confer: ACCORD, AWARD, GRANT, VEST. Each can mean to give, bestow, or provide something.
  • Purple — Best Actor-Winning Biopics: CAPOTE, LINCOLN, MILK, RAY. Each is a biographical film associated with an Academy Award for Best Actor win.

Two tempting misdirections

MILK may look as though it belongs with words meaning “swindle,” but it is part of the biopic group. GRANT and LINCOLN may suggest U.S. presidents; here, GRANT belongs with words meaning “confer,” while LINCOLN is a biopic title.
