How Connections works
Connections asks players to sort 16 words into four groups of four that share a common theme. The colors run from Yellow, the easiest category, through Green and Blue to Purple, the trickiest. Each puzzle has one solution, though some words may seem to fit more than one category. The NYT Help Center explains the rules and color order.

The Purple answers make Burger King, California king, Lion King, and prom king. The connection is that each word precedes “king,” rather than describing four kinds of royalty.
