How Connections works

The New York Times describes Connections as a game in which players sort 16 words into four groups of four based on a shared connection. The groups are color-coded from Yellow, the easiest, to Purple, the trickiest. Words can appear to fit more than one category, but each puzzle has one solution; the Times says its editors curate the words and categories using the Oxford Dictionary.
