The board’s 16 words were FAN, FLAG, WILLIAM, TELL, BONUS, BANKNOTE, CUT, DEAL, BEAK, SALARY, INVOICE, GIVEAWAY, INSURANCE, SIGN, SHUFFLE, and VACATION. The groups and labels are:
- Yellow — PARTS OF A COMPENSATION PACKAGE: BONUS, INSURANCE, SALARY, VACATION.
- Green — INDICATION: FLAG, GIVEAWAY, SIGN, TELL.
- Blue — THINGS TO DO WITH A DECK OF CARDS: CUT, DEAL, FAN, SHUFFLE.
- Purple — WHAT “BILL” MIGHT REFER TO: BANKNOTE, BEAK, INVOICE, WILLIAM.
Why the “Bill” group fits
The purple group connects four meanings of “bill”: a banknote, an invoice, a bird’s beak, and the name William, which may be shortened to Bill. The other groups pair workplace compensation, words meaning an indication, and verbs for handling a deck of cards.
