How Connections works

The New York Times Help Center describes the task this way: “Players are given 16 words and must find groups of four items that share something in common.” Each puzzle has four color-coded groups, from yellow (easiest) through purple (trickiest). The words can seem to fit more than one category, but the puzzle is designed to have one solution.
