That contradiction is the engine of the series. Jackie is often the person patients need most in a crisis, but her professional competence does not make her personal choices safe or honest. Across the show’s seven seasons, her work, family life, friendships, addiction, and efforts to protect her nursing career repeatedly collide.
The series is complete rather than ongoing. Seasons 1–3 contain 12 episodes each, Seasons 4–5 contain 10 episodes each, and Seasons 6–7 contain 12 episodes each, for a total of 80 episodes.
Why the Netflix availability matters more than a simple catalog update
For a finished series like Nurse Jackie, the most useful part of the Netflix listing is that it appears to provide access to the entire original run rather than only selected seasons. Where does the Nurse Jackie finale leave Jackie?
“I Say a Little Prayer,” which aired on June 28, 2015, does not definitively establish whether Jackie lives or dies. After relapsing and using heroin, Jackie collapses. The episode also shows her back in scrubs after a nursing-license hearing and facing a possible job opportunity at Bellevue while All Saints is closing.
The finale then returns to Jackie’s overdose and collapse, ending before the audience receives a definitive medical outcome. Some viewers read the sequence as Jackie’s death; others see it as a near-fatal overdose or an intentionally suspended moment before another attempt at recovery. The important point is that the original ending leaves the interpretation open. It should not be summarized as a confirmed death or confirmed survival.

The ambiguity was part of the finale’s design and controversy. It also means that headlines about a “ten-years-later” continuation should be read carefully: that phrase described the premise reported for a proposed follow-up, not a confirmed explanation of what happened to Jackie after the final shot.

Was a Nurse Jackie sequel coming to Prime Video?
A continuation was reported as being in development in 2024, but it was not a released series and it was never announced as a Netflix project. TheWrap reported that the project had moved from Showtime to Amazon MGM Studios. TVLine independently reported the development and the broad premise.
The proposed series would have starred Edie Falco and picked up ten years after the original finale. The reported version of Jackie was “back on her feet” but no longer had her nursing license, leaving her to face new professional and moral problems. Lionsgate Television was attached, and the reported creative team included Liz Flahive and Abe Sylvia, with Sylvia also attached to direct and executive-produce. Falco and Robert Greenblatt were also reported as executive producers.
That project’s status is now substantially less certain. In an Elle interview published March 5, 2026, Falco said she thought the sequel was “probably not happening,” explaining that she would hear about it and then the project would disappear, and that it had been gone for a while.

- Use Netflix U.S.: Search for Nurse Jackie in the U.S. Netflix catalog and check that all seven seasons are shown. The listing may be available under Netflix’s Standard with Ads plan as well as other eligible plans, according to the cited U.S. availability data.
- Buy individual seasons digitally: JustWatch lists Amazon Video, Fandango at Home, and the Apple TV Store as digital purchase options. Check the current storefront in your territory rather than assuming a purchase option or price is universal.
- Choose physical media: Complete-series DVD editions and individual-season DVD or Blu-ray releases are listed by retailers. This can be useful for viewers who want an owned copy or want protection against future streaming-rights changes, but check the edition, region compatibility, condition, and included seasons before buying.
No matter which option you choose, the show itself is the original completed seven-season run. A Netflix subscription does not currently indicate that a new season has been produced, and the reported Prime Video project should not be treated as an available sequel.

Nurse Jackie is not a conventional hospital procedural in which each episode neatly resolves a medical case. Its medical setting provides the pressure and ethical stakes, but the continuing story is Jackie’s attempt to maintain control while concealing behavior that increasingly threatens her work, relationships, and safety.
The show’s dark humor and Falco’s performance are central to its appeal, but the series also deals directly with addiction, relapse, professional misconduct, and the consequences of impaired judgment. Viewers approaching it as a light workplace comedy may find its tone considerably harsher as the story progresses.
Because the finale is intentionally unresolved, a rewatch can be especially useful for separating what the series actually establishes from what viewers may remember or infer. Jackie’s license hearing, the closing of All Saints, the Bellevue possibility, and the final collapse are all part of the ending; a confirmed death or survival is not.
