What is Not Like Us: The Game?
It is a web-based whack-a-mole-style game inspired by the owl piñata scene in Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” music video. Players take the role of Kendrick and use a bat to hit owls that appear in one of four directions. The appearances speed up, making the challenge increasingly dependent on quick reactions. A chiptune version of the song accompanies the action.

The game is an unofficial fan tribute, not an established Kendrick Lamar or record-label product. Rolling Stone Canada described its browser format in July 2024, but that report does not establish whether the game’s website is still online or playable today. Rolling Stone Canada’s July 17, 2024 report and Billboard Canada’s launch coverage provide the contemporaneous descriptions.
How do you play?
- Open the game in a web browser, if the site is available. At launch, coverage described it as browser-based and did not identify an installation requirement.
- Watch for an owl to appear in one of the four directions and hit it with the on-screen bat controls.
- React faster as the available time to spot and hit an owl decreases. The game’s difficulty rises as play continues.
The reports do not specify the exact controls, scoring rules, or a current URL, so those details should not be assumed.

Who made the game?
Richie Branson—the professional name of Marcus Brown II—created it. In a Rolling Stone Canada interview published July 17, 2024, Branson said the piñata scene immediately suggested a game: “As soon as I saw the piñata scene, I was like, ‘That should be a game.’” He coded it himself and worked with teammates at Coexist Gaming to refine and release it.
Branson also made a chiptune arrangement instead of putting the original recording into the game. He said the project took roughly seven days, including development of both versions and the music production. He described his motivation as a tribute to the culture around the music: “I did this for the people,” he told Rolling Stone. “I did it as a love letter to hip-hop and music, and because of that I wanted to make sure people would enjoy it.”

How did the Kendrick–Drake feud become a game?
The game takes one of the video’s most recognizable images—the owl piñata—and makes it the center of a simple arcade challenge. Its premise relies on recognition rather than a detailed retelling of the feud: players see the symbol, understand the reference, and respond to the targets as they appear. The song’s chiptune treatment carries the musical connection into the game without using the original recording, according to Branson’s interview.
That low-friction format helped the joke travel beyond the video. In a GamesBeat interview published January 22, 2026, Branson reported that the game reached one million players after 28 hours and 1.5 million players in its first 36 hours. Those are creator-reported figures, not independently audited counts. The interview also quotes Brown on why an easy-to-share experience matters: “if you give people a way to enjoy something gamified without making them jump through a lot of hoops, it’s easier for people to share it.”

When did it launch, and can you still play?
Billboard Canada reported that Branson unveiled the game on July 15, 2024. Rolling Stone Canada described it two days later as playable in a browser. Neither report verifies its present-day availability, so it is safest to treat browser playability as a launch-era description rather than a guarantee that the game works now.
