Kendrick Lamar brought his feud with Drake into the Super Bowl LIX halftime show most directly with a performance of “Not Like Us.” Before the song, he said, “I want to perform their favorite song, but you know they love to sue,” a line The Atlantic interpreted as a reference to the legal dispute around the track. The NFL’s official recording captures the performance; the song’s accusations remain lyrics, not established findings.
What happened during the halftime show?
Lamar headlined the Apple Music Super Bowl LIX halftime show in New Orleans on February 9, 2025. The NFL published the full performance on its official YouTube channel, providing a primary record of what he performed and said: watch the NFL’s halftime show video.
The Associated Press described the set as 13 minutes long and reported a 10-song set list. It included “Euphoria,” “Not Like Us” and “TV Off,” as well as “Luther” and “All the Stars,” performed with SZA. AP also reported that half of the set’s songs came from GNX. See AP’s performance report.
How did Lamar reference Drake?
“Not Like Us” was the clearest musical reference
“Not Like Us” was a diss track associated with the 2024 Lamar–Drake feud. Lamar performed it during the show; the AP set list includes the song, and the NFL recording documents the performance. NPR described the track as containing lyrics that accuse Drake of misconduct and cultural appropriation. Those are accusations voiced in the song, not independently established findings. The line about suing introduced the song
Before a teaser of “Not Like Us,” Lamar said, “I want to perform their favorite song, but you know they love to sue,” according to The Atlantic. The publication’s writer interpreted the remark as referring to the legal dispute around the track. The line and that interpretation provide context for the moment, but neither establishes the truth of the song’s allegations. Read The Atlantic’s performance analysis.
“Euphoria” was also in the reported set
AP’s set list includes “Euphoria,” another song associated with the feud. The presence of both songs made the rivalry part of the broadcast, but the set list alone does not establish Lamar’s full intent for every performance or staging choice.

Why did the performance draw attention?
The halftime show placed material from a highly publicized rap rivalry before a mass audience. The performance’s documentary record is clear: the NFL video shows the show, and AP’s account identifies the songs in the set. Interpretations of the spoken line or visual staging are a separate matter and should be attributed to the reporter or critic making them; the available accounts do not provide a comprehensive first-person explanation from Lamar of each visual choice.
For context, AP described “Not Like Us” as a diss track tied to the dispute in its coverage of GNX. Read AP’s report on GNX. The song’s claims should be understood as part of a musical feud rather than treated as verified facts.
