No. Beyoncé did not attend or perform on the final night of the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Her representative told The Hollywood Reporter, “Beyoncé was never scheduled to be there. The report of a performance is untrue.” The convention played a recording of her song “Freedom” around Kamala Harris’s speech; Beyoncé did not appear in person.
How the performance rumor spread
On August 22, 2024, the convention’s final night, rumors of a surprise Beyoncé appearance grew from a mix of online hints and news reports. TMZ and The Hill reported that she would perform. The Washington Post later described TMZ’s report as erroneous and said it had no named sources. The Guardian reported that The Hill’s account drew on sources and social posts about Beyoncé songs being rehearsed at the venue.

Those reports and clues were not confirmation that an appearance had been booked. The Washington Post noted that a gap in the published program was thought by someone familiar with the DNC schedule to be a short stage-reset break.
What fueled speculation
- “Freedom” at Harris events: Harris’s campaign had used Beyoncé’s 2016 song in campaign material and at events, making it plausible to some that the singer might appear.
- Music at the venue: Beyoncé songs were heard at the convention, but hearing a song played is not evidence that its artist is present.
- A bee emoji: White House political director Emmy Ruiz posted a bee emoji. She later said her six-year-old had used her phone to post it.
- A perceived schedule gap: The open space in the published program was interpreted as a possible slot for a surprise guest, though it was reportedly likely a brief stage reset.
Each clue was ambiguous. When outlets and social-media accounts repeated the possibility, repetition could make the claim sound more established than its underlying evidence warranted.

What happened at the end of the convention
Harris delivered her acceptance speech, “Freedom” played as recorded music, and the evening concluded with a balloon drop. No surprise Beyoncé appearance followed. The representative’s denial, reported as the convention began, is the clearest direct evidence about whether she had been scheduled.
Why the reports seemed to conflict
The accounts differed in how firmly they described a possible performance. Some reports presented it as expected, while other coverage traced the story to speculation and ambiguous clues. The Washington Post said TMZ’s report was erroneous and had no named sources; The Guardian described The Hill’s reporting as based on sources and social posts about rehearsal music. Those are different descriptions of the rumor’s origins, not confirmation that Beyoncé was booked.
Rank #2
Axios reported that Polymarket bettors placed the likelihood of a performance at almost 96% after TMZ’s report. That figure reflects betting-market sentiment at that moment; it does not establish a booking, the organizers’ plans, or a performance.

This answer concerns the final night of the 2024 DNC in Chicago. Beyoncé separately appeared at a Harris campaign rally in Houston in October 2024; that later rally does not change what happened at the convention.

Nor does the convention’s use of “Freedom” establish that Beyoncé attended or made an official endorsement at the convention. The evidence described in contemporaneous coverage establishes the song’s recorded use and her representative’s denial of a scheduled appearance—not a live performance.
