No. Taylor Swift did not attend the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards. Post-ceremony coverage confirmed her absence, although she was nominated for Artist of the Year.
Was Taylor Swift at the 2025 MTV VMAs?
No. The ceremony took place on September 7, 2025, and The Guardian reported afterward that Swift was among the nominees who were absent. E! News had reported on September 5 that she would miss the show; that was an advance report, not an official MTV announcement. The Guardian’s post-event report confirms what happened.

Why was her absence notable?
Swift was nominated for Artist of the Year, one of the ceremony’s headline awards. Lady Gaga won, with Swift, Beyoncé and Bad Bunny also among the nominees who were not in attendance, according to The Guardian.
The Associated Press’s August 5, 2025 nomination report said Swift and Beyoncé each had 30 career VMA wins at that point. That was a pre-ceremony figure, not a current total. The AP nomination report also listed Swift among the Artist of the Year nominees.

Why didn’t Taylor Swift attend?
No confirmed explanation for Swift’s absence is established by the available reporting. E! connected its September 5 report with her forthcoming album, but timing alone does not establish that the album was the reason. Neither the advance report nor post-event coverage cited a verified statement from Swift or her representative explaining the decision.

The ceremony was held Sunday, September 7, 2025, at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York. Paramount’s September 2 announcement said the show would air live in the United States on CBS at 8 p.m. Eastern / 5 p.m. Pacific, simulcast on MTV, and stream on Paramount+. Those were the announced event arrangements, not a statement about Swift’s attendance. Paramount’s event announcement has the schedule and distribution details.
