Nintendo’s animated short Close to You is a Pikmin short made by Nintendo Pictures. In the first version, a baby chases a pacifier that seems to move by itself; an updated version reveals Pikmin moving objects around the nursery. Nintendo has not announced that the short is a teaser for a new Pikmin game, feature film, or series.
What happens in Close to You?
The nearly four-minute short follows a baby pursuing a pacifier as it appears to move around the room. The October 7, 2025, upload left the cause unexplained, making the nursery’s small movements the central mystery. GameSpot’s description of the original release notes both the baby-and-pacifier premise and its runtime.
In a version published the next day, Pikmin are shown moving objects in the room. That reveal explains the strange motion and confirms the short’s connection to the game series; it does not, by itself, signal a new game or another kind of project. Nintendo Wire and Engadget reported on the updated video.
Why did viewers speculate?
The first upload did not identify the creatures or explicitly explain a game connection. Viewers therefore speculated about what was behind the pacifier’s movement, including a possible Pikmin connection. The updated video showed that the Pikmin guess was right about the short’s characters, but it did not substantiate broader theories about a new release.

Who made the short, and what did Nintendo say it was for?
Nintendo’s February 2026 investor Q&A identifies Close to You as a Pikmin short movie produced by Nintendo Pictures, a Nintendo subsidiary. The company had also described the two videos as Nintendo Pictures’ first short films, framing them as a studio showcase rather than a product announcement. Nintendo said the studio would continue exploring creative possibilities through video content. Nintendo’s investor Q&A provides the later confirmation; GamesRadar+ reported the October 2025 clarification.

No. The confirmed news is that Nintendo Pictures made a Pikmin short. Nintendo’s statements do not announce a particular upcoming Pikmin game, feature film, or series. In the investor Q&A, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa said: “At this stage, we cannot say anything about the development of other movies.” He also discussed video content beyond feature films, but did not name a specific follow-up. Treat Close to You as a short film, not evidence of a project Nintendo has not announced.
