The story moves between two periods: Kay’s early career as a chief medical examiner in the late 1990s and her return to her hometown in the present day. The current murder investigation is connected to the case that made her career 28 years earlier, according to Prime Video’s official series guide.
When did Scarpetta premiere, and where can you watch it?
Amazon’s U.S. March 2026 release roundup listed March 11, 2026, as the premiere date. The Prime Video guide, updated March 19, 2026, says all eight Season 1 episodes are streaming in more than 240 countries and territories. Local catalog availability may vary.

That guide says Prime Video is included with Amazon Prime. Its listed U.S. membership prices—$14.99 per month or $139 per year—are figures published as of March 19, 2026, not universal prices or a guarantee of today’s rate. Amazon directs viewers to their local site for local pricing.
How is Scarpetta different from Reacher?
Both series are adaptations of popular book characters available on Prime Video, but they center on different kinds of crime-solving. Reacher is associated with a physically imposing former military investigator; Scarpetta follows a forensic pathologist whose work centers on examining evidence and investigating deaths. The available official description supports calling Scarpetta a forensic crime thriller, not an action series.

The two-timeline structure is another distinction: Scarpetta follows Kay in both the late 1990s and the present day. Its first season has eight episodes. “Replacement” is therefore a promotional comparison, not a franchise connection or an indication that one show takes the other’s place.
