The trailer for Netflix’s 2024 romantic comedy A Family Affair sets up a workplace-and-family tangle: Zara, a young woman who assists movie star Chris Cole, discovers that Chris has started a romance with her mother, Brooke. Nicole Kidman plays Brooke, Zac Efron plays Chris and Joey King plays Zara. The story is fictional; the trailer’s romance is between their characters.
What happens in the trailer?
Zara Ford works as the assistant to Chris Cole, a movie star whose professional life brings her close to him. The unexpected complication arrives when her mother, Brooke Harwood, a writer, begins a relationship with Chris. Zara is suddenly caught between her family life and the job she has built around her famous boss.
Netflix describes the premise as a romance that sparks comic consequences for a young woman, her mother and her movie-star boss as they confront “the complications of love, sex, and identity.” That is the official logline from Netflix’s film listing.
