Nicole Eggert alleged that Scott Baio sexually abused her while they worked on Charles in Charge, saying the conduct began when she was 14 and that intercourse occurred when she was 17. Baio denied abuse and described their sexual encounter as consensual and occurring when Eggert was older. Police met with Eggert and reportedly looked into her allegations in February 2018; prosecutors reportedly declined to file assault charges that June. Neither the inquiry nor the charging decision established whether the allegations were true.
What did Nicole Eggert allege?
In a January 30, 2018 interview on Megyn Kelly Today, Eggert said the alleged abuse began while she and Baio were working on Charles in Charge, when she was 14. She described an incident in Baio’s garage and alleged that he later touched her sexually on the set. Eggert said intercourse first occurred when she was 17, while the show was still running. These are Eggert’s allegations, as reported by TIME, not findings of fact.
Eggert also said Baio told her not to tell anyone about their relationship because it was illegal and he could go to jail. She described feeling intimidated and said she came to understand the relationship differently as she got older. TIME reported her reflection: “It wasn’t until getting a little bit older that I started to realize this is not love.” That is Eggert’s characterization of her experience, not an independently verified finding.
How did Scott Baio respond?
Baio publicly denied Eggert’s allegations in January 2018, calling them lies. He acknowledged one sexual encounter but characterized it as consensual and said Eggert was 19 or 20 at the time, according to ABC News. He also cited a 2013 interview in which Eggert had reportedly described consensual sex after Charles in Charge ended.

The accounts conflict on both the nature of the conduct and the timing of sex. Eggert said intercourse occurred when she was 17; Baio’s account placed their encounter after she was 18, with ABC reporting his more specific claim that she was 19 or 20. Those are competing accounts, not a shared timeline. In a response on Good Morning America, Baio said, “This has to stop,” as reported by Global News.
What did police and prosecutors reportedly do?
Police inquiry
The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to ABC News that it met with Eggert in February 2018 and was looking into her allegations. Eggert’s attorney said she answered detectives’ questions. The report documents police contact and an inquiry; it does not report a finding about what happened. See ABC News.

Reported decision not to file charges
In June 2018, CityNews reported that prosecutors declined to file assault charges against Baio. The report does not establish the reason for that decision, and it is not a court verdict deciding whether Eggert’s account was true or false. The charging decision is reported by CityNews.
Global News reported in January 2018 that the allegations had not been proven in court and Baio had not been charged at that point. That describes the status when that article appeared; the later reported prosecutorial decision is a separate development.

These are attributed observations and recollections; they do not independently prove the alleged abuse or resolve the conflicting accounts.
