Nick Offerman’s “Proud to Be a Kamala Man” is a political parody of Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA,” written from the imagined perspective of a former Republican who switches to supporting Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. Offerman’s video takes aim at Donald Trump and JD Vance; it is a campaign-supporting performance by the actor and comedian, not a reported Harris campaign advertisement.
What is “Proud to Be a Kamala Man”?
Offerman’s song recasts the sound and patriotic framing of Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA,” also known as “Proud to Be an American,” as a pitch for Harris and Walz. The Independent identified Greenwood’s song as the parody’s musical source: The Independent’s report.
The official video description presents the narrator as a former Republican voter who comes to reject the GOP ticket and vote for what Offerman calls the “decency” offered by Harris and Walz. That is the song’s satirical premise and Offerman’s promotional framing, not a factual report about a particular voter. The lyrics mock Trump and Vance while portraying Harris and Walz favorably.
What does the song target?
The piece is pointed political satire aimed at Trump and Vance, delivered through the perspective of a voter who has changed sides. Its claims and characterizations are part of the lyrics and performance; they should be understood as political rhetoric rather than independent findings. Offerman’s video description calls it an anthem supporting Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, and credits lyrics to Nick Offerman and Mark Rivers: the official Nick Offerman video.
