The biggest U.S. Netflix additions in April 2025 were Black Mirror season 7, the 1996 film Matilda and the final season of You. Black Mirror brought six episodes, including the anthology’s first direct sequel, on April 10. Matilda arrived on April 1, while all 10 episodes of You season 5 landed on April 24. The month also included sports and influencer documentaries, new dramas and a large April 1 batch of recognizable movies.
This is a historical guide to the United States April 2025 schedule, not a live statement of what remains available on Netflix. Regional catalogs and licensing windows can differ.

Matilda — April 1
The U.S. April schedule added the 1996 film adaptation of Roald Dahl’s Matilda on April 1. Danny DeVito directed and stars in this family fantasy about an exceptionally intelligent girl dealing with neglectful parents and the authoritarian headmistress Miss Trunchbull.
It is the month’s clearest family-night choice and a strong nostalgia rewatch for adults who remember the film from the 1990s. Younger viewers can also use it as an introduction to Dahl’s original novel. If the movie prompts a return to the source material, families and readers can read the original Matilda novel. Family and nostalgia
Matilda is the obvious centerpiece, but the April 1 batch also included The Croods, Rise of the Guardians and Uncle Buck. Together, those titles offered several types of family viewing: animated adventure, fantasy and broad live-action comedy. The Addams Family, added on April 9, extended the month’s nostalgia appeal.

Sports and competition
April brought both scripted sports movies and behind-the-scenes sports documentary coverage. Field of Dreams, For Love of the Game, Draft Day and Rudy formed the recognizable movie group, while The Clubhouse: A Year with the Red Sox followed the 2024 Boston Red Sox through an access-focused documentary series.
Crime, suspense and horror
For a darker movie night, the April 1 additions included Michael Mann’s Heat, Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho, Sicario: Day of the Soldado and Insidious: Chapter 2. The Place Beyond the Pines, The Mauritanian, Lucy and Geostorm broadened the selection into crime drama, courtroom drama, science-fiction action and disaster spectacle.
Comedy rewatches
Big Daddy, Couples Retreat, Get Him to the Greek, Smokey and the Bandit, Smokey and the Bandit II, Uncle Buck and Baby Mama made April especially useful for viewers looking for an easy comedy rewatch rather than a new multi-season commitment.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What should you watch first?
- Choose Black Mirror season 7 if you want the month’s most ambitious anthology, a six-episode commitment and the novelty of a direct continuation within the series.
- Choose Matilda for family viewing or a short, familiar film. The 1996 adaptation is the relevant April addition, rather than a general recommendation for every version of the story.
- Choose You season 5 if you have watched the previous seasons and want the ten-episode conclusion to Joe Goldberg’s story. Start with the earlier seasons if you have not.
- Choose The Clubhouse, Bad Influence or Chef’s Table: Legends if documentaries are your priority.
- Choose the April 1 movie batch if you want a particular mood: sports with Rudy or Field of Dreams, crime with Heat or Sicario: Day of the Soldado, or comedy with Big Daddy and Uncle Buck.
