Netflix’s TV homepage redesign began as a limited test reported in June 2024, but it became an official TV experience announced on May 7, 2025. On compatible televisions and streaming devices, the main navigation moves from the left side to the top of the screen, title information becomes more prominent, and personal viewing shortcuts are gathered under My Netflix.
The redesign is rolling out by device rather than appearing everywhere at once. If your Netflix menu is still on the left, you are either using the previous interface or the device has not received—and may not support—the new one.
What changed in Netflix’s TV interface?
Netflix says the redesigned TV experience is intended to make choosing something to watch easier while supporting a broader service that includes films, series, games and live programming. The practical changes are mostly about navigation and presentation:

- More information appears beside the selected title: browsing can show metadata such as the synopsis, release year, episode information, genres and callouts including “Emmy Award Winner” or “#1 in TV Shows.”
- Recommendations can respond more quickly to activity: Netflix says actions such as watching a trailer or giving a title a thumbs-up can influence recommendations.
- Personal content is consolidated: My List, Continue Watching, reminders and other viewing activity are gathered in My Netflix.
Netflix describes these as usability improvements. They are design goals rather than independently proven guarantees that every viewer will browse faster or find better recommendations.

Where to find Netflix’s familiar features
Search
Press Back on the remote to return to the top menu, then select Search. Search remains the quickest route to a specific film, documentary, series, actor or genre.
My List and Continue Watching
- Press Back until the top navigation is visible.
- Select My Netflix.
- Open the relevant personal-content section, such as My List or Continue Watching.
Labels and the precise arrangement can vary by device, country, profile and rollout stage. My List has not been deleted; it has been moved into the consolidated personal destination.

Categories and genres
Categories is no longer a top-level shortcut in the redesigned TV menu. Select Search and use the category or genre list on the left side of the Search area. You can also search directly for a genre such as documentaries, crime, history or nature.
New releases and popular titles
New & Popular is also no longer a main-menu shortcut. Look for New on Netflix rows on the homepage or on the shows and movies pages. For current popularity, use Top 10 rows.

This is a relocation, not proof that Netflix has removed genre browsing, new releases or popularity information. The trade-off is that the new layout may look less cluttered while making these destinations less obvious to people who relied on the old menu.
Profiles
Profiles remain available from the top navigation. Select the profile shortcut to change users or manage the profile currently viewing Netflix.

How to tell whether you have the redesign
Open Netflix on your TV or streaming device and check the homepage:
- Menu across the top: the redesigned experience is active.
- Menu on the left: the device is still using the previous experience, has not received the rollout, or may not meet Netflix’s technical requirements.
Netflix says the new TV experience is available on most TVs and TV-streaming devices, with additional devices receiving it over time. That does not mean every television, streaming stick, set-top box or game console will show the same interface.
Older hardware is a particular concern. Netflix warns that some TVs and streaming devices made before 2015 may no longer support the service at all. Check the Netflix TV experience and layout guidance and the supported-devices list for your model.

Do you need to update Netflix?
Not necessarily. Netflix describes the redesign as a rollout to compatible devices, not as a change that every subscriber must manually install or activate. If you still have the old layout, try these steps:

- Install any available system-software update for the television or streaming device.
- Update the Netflix app if your platform allows manual app updates.
- Close and restart Netflix.
- Restart the TV or streaming device.
- Check whether Netflix reports that the app version or device is unsupported.
If the old interface remains after updating and restarting, it may simply be outside the rollout or incompatible with the new experience. If Netflix identifies an unsupported app version, follow its unsupported-app-version guidance. When the operating system can no longer be updated, using Netflix through a newer supported streaming device may be the practical solution.

Netflix says the new arrangement reduces the need to scan between a selected title and a separate information area. Showing metadata and recommendation signals closer to the title is meant to help viewers decide before playback.
The redesign also gives Netflix a navigation structure that can accommodate more than conventional films and series. Games and live programming are part of Netflix’s broader entertainment offering, so the change is an information-architecture update as well as a visual refresh.
Netflix further says recommendations can adapt more quickly to actions and interests. That should not be interpreted as literal mood detection: the documented behavior is based on activity such as viewing trailers and rating titles.

What the redesign does not change
- It does not automatically change your Netflix subscription plan.
- It is not documented as requiring a particular premium plan; the relevant limitations are device compatibility and rollout status.
- It does not guarantee the same catalog in every country. Netflix libraries, availability and recommendations vary by region and profile.
- It does not remove Categories content from Netflix; category browsing has moved under Search.
- It is not the same as Netflix’s 2026 mobile redesign.
Do not confuse the TV redesign with Netflix’s mobile redesign
The topic here is Netflix’s TV homepage. Netflix separately announced a mobile redesign on April 30, 2026. That mobile experience introduced bottom navigation, content filters, a notifications center and a vertical Clips feed. Netflix said on July 14, 2026 that the mobile design was available in Brazil, France, Germany, Korea and Mexico, while the initial rollout also included the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, India, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines and South Africa.
Mobile availability depends on country and app version. The mobile layout’s bottom navigation and Clips feed should not be used as evidence that the TV app has changed in the same way. See Netflix’s mobile redesign announcement and mobile Help Center guidance.
The measured verdict
Netflix’s TV redesign makes the visual hierarchy more straightforward: the top menu is easier to identify, title context is more visible, and personal viewing activity has one main destination. For viewers browsing documentaries or other genres, however, the removal of Categories from the main menu means an extra step through Search. The same is true of New & Popular and, to a lesser extent, My List.
In short, Netflix has not erased those features—it has redistributed them. The redesign is official, but its availability and exact appearance still depend on the TV or streaming device, country, profile and rollout status.
