Spoilers for all five episodes of Netflix’s Sirens, including the finale. Simone stays at Cliff House with Peter after Michaela fires her. Peter ends his marriage, and Simone takes Michaela’s place beside him and in the public role at the Folger Wildlife Preservation Society. Devon leaves the island with their father, Bruce. The finale does not confirm that Simone is happy with her choice.

What happens to Simone in the finale?

After seeing photographs of Peter kissing Simone, Michaela fires her and withdraws the future she had offered her at Cliff House. Simone says Peter initiated the kiss. With returning to Buffalo and living with Devon and Bruce looming, Simone goes back to Cliff House and tells Peter that Michaela has kept the photographs in case he tries to divorce her.

Peter ends his marriage to Michaela and sends her away from the property. Simone remains with him, taking Michaela’s place as his partner and in her public role at the Folger Wildlife Preservation Society. Those are the concrete events; what Simone feels about the arrangement is less certain.

Why does Simone choose to stay?

The series frames Simone’s decision less as a simple romantic choice than as an escape from the life she fears returning to. Creator and showrunner Molly Smith Metzler said she wanted viewers to understand why Simone is desperate not to go back to Buffalo, even if they judge her choice. Director and executive producer Nicole Kassell described returning to Simone’s childhood home as feeling worse to her than death. Milly Alcock, who plays Simone, has described Peter as someone Simone sees as a source of safety and an ally.

That points to self-preservation, security and the desire to leave her past behind—not proof that the choice will make her happy. The series’ family questions, as Metzler put them, are: “Are you where you come from? What do you owe where you come from? What do you owe the people who brought you into the world?”

What happens between Simone and Devon?

Devon accepts that Simone has made her own choice and leaves for Buffalo with Bruce. The sisters say they will see each other in the fall, but Metzler describes their goodbye as one in which both know they probably will not. Meghann Fahy, who plays Devon, says Devon realizes she had blamed Michaela for Simone’s decision rather than accepting that Simone did not want to return home. Their parting is a painful separation, not a reunion.

Is Simone happy in the final shot?

The closing image shows Simone in a silk dress, looking out over the ocean from the Cliff House grounds. Metzler described the expression chosen for the moment as a “Mona Lisa smile”: the audience cannot know exactly what Simone is thinking. The showrunner called the ending bittersweet, while also seeing excitement in Simone’s expression. TheWrap’s interview likewise describes the image as intentionally open-ended.

So the most grounded reading is that Simone has gained a powerful new position, but the series does not establish that she is happy, or that her future with Peter is secure. Metzler has said the audience gets to decide how Simone feels—and how to feel about her choice.

Are Simone and Peter really in love?

Peter declares his love for Simone, and Kevin Bacon, who plays Peter, says he believes Peter does fall in love with her. Simone tells Devon that she and Peter declared their love on the beach. But Metzler notes that Simone may be giving Devon—and herself—a version of events that helps her live with her decision. Alcock offers a different interpretation: Simone feels safe with Peter, but Alcock does not think Simone is in love with him.

These are competing readings from the people who made and performed the series, not a settled explanation of Simone’s inner life. The finale gives Peter’s declaration and Simone’s account; it leaves the meaning of their relationship open.

Is Simone literally a siren or a monster?

The title’s mythology works as a lens for questions of perspective, gender, power and blame, not as confirmation that Simone has supernatural abilities. Metzler asks who gets to define the “sirens,” observing that women called monsters in myth may never have had their side of the story heard: “We call these women monsters in the myth, but for all we know, they’re just singing for help.”
