Netflix tested a redesigned TV app with a limited number of customers in June 2024, then announced a broader new TV experience on May 7, 2025. The later design puts more title information on the homepage, makes Search and My List easier to reach, and aims to make recommendations more responsive. Netflix described a global rollout over the following weeks and months, but did not publish one release date or a device-by-device schedule—so the interface may differ across TVs and streaming devices.
What Netflix tested in 2024
A June 6, 2024 report described a limited test, not a universal update. In that version, a highlighted title could expand to show more information, and a trailer or preview could play when a viewer hovered over it. The report also described a top navigation bar replacing the familiar left-side menu, with areas such as Search, Home, Shows, Movies, and My Netflix.
The report said some existing categories and “New and Popular” navigation elements were removed or moved, with title details and recommendations nearer the center of the screen. These were reported elements of the test, not a final Netflix specification. Tech Times’ June 2024 report is the source for those specifics.

Netflix’s May 7, 2025 announcement described a redesigned TV experience and said it would roll out globally over the coming weeks and months. The company highlighted four changes:

- More title information at a glance: Netflix said details would be more prominent to help members decide what to watch. It gave “Emmy Award Winner” and “#1 in TV Shows” as examples of contextual callouts, not labels promised for every title.
- More visible shortcuts: Search and My List, which Netflix said had been less prominent on the left, would move to the top of the page.
- More responsive recommendations: Netflix said recommendations would better reflect members’ current moods and interests. It did not explain the signals or timing behind that change.
- A refreshed homepage: Netflix described the design as cleaner and more modern, and as better suited to its range of programming. Those are the company’s design goals, not independently measured usability results.
Netflix’s official announcement confirms these broad changes. It does not confirm that every animation, menu label, or category arrangement reported in the 2024 test carried over unchanged.
How the 2024 test relates to the 2025 design
The two announcements are likely part of the same design evolution: Netflix tested a new TV interface in 2024 and later announced a broader redesign. But the 2025 announcement does not validate every detail in the earlier report. Treat the larger tiles, hover previews, and specific navigation changes as reported test behavior unless they are visible on your own device; the later announcement confirms the overall direction, not a complete final menu map.

Is the redesigned interface available on your TV?
Netflix announced a global rollout, but did not give a single date when every subscriber would receive the same interface. A “global” rollout over weeks and months does not establish simultaneous availability on every device or in every market. What appears can vary with the TV’s operating system, device model and firmware, country, Netflix app implementation, profile, support status, and staged availability.

The redesign concerns browsing and discovery. Netflix’s announcement does not say it changes playback resolution, bitrate, audio quality, subscription price, account-sharing rules, or the catalogue available to a member.
What to try if your Netflix app still looks the same
Netflix did not publish a universal setting or manual activation path for the redesign. These ordinary checks may help if an update is available, but they are troubleshooting suggestions—not required rollout steps:

- Open Netflix on the TV or connected streaming device and check the homepage.
- Check the device’s app store or settings for a Netflix app update, and install it if available.
- Check for a TV or streaming-device software update.
- Restart Netflix or the device after installing updates, then check again.
- If possible, compare with another supported device. A different layout can reflect rollout or device differences rather than an account or billing problem.
- If Netflix is malfunctioning or the device may no longer be supported, contact Netflix support or the device maker for guidance.
Repeatedly uninstalling the app or buying new hardware is not established as a way to trigger the redesign. The announcement also does not provide detailed accessibility specifications, so it is sensible to check that text, focus navigation, screen-reader support, captions, contrast, and motion settings work for the people using your TV.
The TV redesign is separate from Netflix’s mobile experiments
Netflix announced two other discovery ideas alongside the TV experience, but they are not TV-homepage features. One was an opt-in generative-AI search beta for iOS, intended to accept conversational requests such as wanting something “funny and upbeat.” The other was a planned mobile test of a vertical feed of clips from Netflix shows and films. Neither should be confused with the redesigned TV app.

Why Netflix is changing the homepage
Netflix’s stated aim is to make it easier to find something to watch by showing title context more clearly and making recommendations more responsive. That addresses a familiar streaming problem: large libraries can make choosing feel like work, while a TV remote offers fewer ways to search and navigate than a phone or computer.
There is a trade-off. More badges, previews, and prominent recommendations may speed up browsing for some viewers, but can also make a homepage feel busier or more promotional. A recommendation-led layout may be less predictable for people who prefer fixed categories, and the announcement does not establish that recommendations will become more accurate for every profile.
Netflix’s TV interface has changed before
The 2024 test was not Netflix’s first TV redesign. The company introduced video previews as part of a TV experience update in 2016 and announced another TV navigation redesign in 2018. That history is a reminder that interface experiments and product updates can evolve rather than preserve every element from an earlier version.
