Netflix did delist most of its interactive shows and films, but the shutdown happened in stages. Most of the catalog disappeared beginning December 1, 2024. Four titles initially survived, and the two best-known holdouts—Black Mirror: Bandersnatch and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend—were subsequently reported removed around May 12, 2025. Netflix has not abandoned interactive storytelling altogether: it has shifted that work from branching video specials to games such as Netflix Stories.
The short answer
Netflix is effectively finished with its original interactive-video format: the click-to-choose specials that played inside the Netflix video interface. Reporting in late 2024 identified about 24 interactive titles, with most scheduled for removal on December 1. Four were initially left behind:

Bandersnatch and Kimmy vs. the Reverend were later reported removed globally around May 12, 2025. The available reporting does not establish exactly when the two Wild titles disappeared in every country, so their territory-by-territory status should not be treated as identical.
Netflix still offers interactive fiction, but as games rather than movies or television specials. Its official support page describes Netflix Stories as interactive-story games for mobile devices.

What Netflix actually announced
This was more than a routine licensing expiration. Reporting published in January 2024 said Netflix had released roughly 28 interactive titles since the feature began rolling out around 2017, many aimed at children and families. By late 2024, Netflix was phasing out the technology and stopping further work on interactive shows and films.
Contemporary coverage attributed the change to Netflix redirecting engineering and product resources toward “technological efforts in other areas.” Netflix did not publish detailed figures showing that cost or audience performance alone caused the decision. The clearest strategic context is its expanding games business.
What disappeared in the first wave?
The removals covered adult, reality, animation and children’s programming. Reported examples included:

- Trivia and animation: Triviaverse and Cat Burglar
The often-cited count of 24 came from reporting and could vary by country, account profile and date. “Most” or “nearly all” is more accurate than claiming every territory had exactly the same catalog.
A two-stage timeline

Why move from interactive video to games?
Interactive specials required Netflix to maintain branching playback, choice menus, alternate video assets and compatibility across supported devices. That is a specialized layer on top of ordinary streaming. Netflix’s games strategy offered a different product framework that could be extended through mobile releases, interactive fiction and, in some markets, television and computer gaming.
In December 2023, Netflix said its games catalog included interactive fiction such as Netflix Stories: Love is Blind. The company says games are included with memberships without advertisements, in-app purchases or an extra fee. That does not prove a specific financial reason for ending interactive video, but it shows where Netflix chose to invest its interactive-product resources.
Netflix has not killed branching stories
The distinction matters:
- Discontinued: films and shows in which viewers choose branches from inside the Netflix video player.
- Still active: narrative games and interactive fiction distributed through Netflix Games, chiefly on mobile and, where supported, through a TV-and-computer gaming beta.
Netflix has promoted games tied to Love Is Blind, Too Hot to Handle, The Ultimatum, Perfect Match and Selling Sunset. These are games, not replacements that reproduce the exact experience of watching Bandersnatch.

Bandersnatch was Netflix’s most visible experiment with choice-based video. Its removal is especially notable because it helped establish the company’s interactive ambitions for a mainstream audience. The timing also followed renewed interest in the wider Black Mirror universe after the Season 7 episode “Plaything.” That is not necessarily contradictory: Netflix can continue the franchise while abandoning the particular playback technology used by Bandersnatch.

A delisted title is no longer searchable or playable through the normal Netflix catalog. A subscription grants access to a changing service, not permanent ownership or a guaranteed download. A conventional recording may preserve one linear path, but not the original menus, branching logic, alternate scenes or choice-dependent playback.
Netflix’s interactive feature also was never universal across every device. Historical catalog information identified Apple TV and Chromecast among devices that did not support the functionality. Country, app version, device and account settings could all affect availability.

If you are looking for a removed title, check Netflix’s current catalog and official title pages first. Do not assume that an old search result, a standard rental or a disc release preserves the interactive version. Walkthroughs and fan recordings can document the story, but they are not the same as the original experience. No general official preservation library or confirmed third-party re-release was identified in the available material.

Interactive video is harder to preserve than an ordinary film. The work includes video branches, decision menus, timing rules, playback software and device support. Preserving only the video files can leave out the system that made the choices meaningful. Netflix’s removals therefore raise a broader cultural-preservation question even if some scenes survive in screenshots, recaps or unofficial recordings.
Could the specials return?
One industry report said Bandersnatch and Kimmy vs. the Reverend might return through Netflix’s Games tab as emulated games. That possibility remains unconfirmed. Netflix’s official games and support pages establish the company’s current game strategy, but do not confirm a relaunch of either special. Treat any “return” headline as a report, not as Netflix policy, unless Netflix publishes a first-party announcement.
What Netflix offers now
Readers seeking choice-based storytelling can explore Netflix Games on mobile, including Netflix Stories. Netflix lists Android 8.0+, iOS 16+ and iPadOS 16+ for that category, and requires an active subscription. TV and computer gaming is a beta experience with country, device and browser limitations. Neither option restores the original interactive-video catalog; they represent Netflix’s new delivery format for branching entertainment.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Netflix ended interactive video in two steps—most specials left in December 2024, followed by the reported May 2025 removal of its final prominent holdouts. Interactive storytelling continues through Netflix Games, but Netflix Stories and related titles are games, not a revival of the Bandersnatch-style streaming special.
