Netflix’s Devil May Cry had a strong first year by reported viewing and critic-score measures, and the series has continued with a second season and a confirmed third and final season. But “jackpot” is a shorthand for several different signals—not one official success score: Netflix-reported views, critic and audience ratings, and the decision to keep producing the show.
What is Netflix’s Devil May Cry anime?
It is an animated adaptation of Capcom’s Devil May Cry action-game franchise. The story follows Dante, an orphaned demon hunter for hire, as sinister forces try to open a portal between the human and demon realms. Netflix identifies Adi Shankar as the creator; Capcom’s launch announcement names him as executive producer and Studio Mir as the animation studio. The first season began streaming on Netflix on April 3, 2025. Netflix’s series announcement and Capcom’s April 3, 2025 release provide the premise and launch details.
What supports the “jackpot” description?
The strongest case combines reported reach, critical response and continued production. Each is a different kind of evidence: none alone establishes that every viewer liked the series or that it was a commercial hit by every measure.
| Signal | What the available evidence says | How to read it |
|---|---|---|
| Reported viewing | Netflix’s Season 1 received 21.7 million views in 2025, and Season 2 received 6.4 million views in its first two weeks, according to figures attributed to Netflix by What’s on Netflix, June 4, 2026. | These are reported views, not a count of unique people. The season totals cover different time windows, so they are not a like-for-like comparison. |
| Critic response | Rotten Tomatoes showed a 98% average Tomatometer from 44 reviews in its snapshot accessed October 8, 2026. Its page listed Season 1 at 96% and Season 2 at 100%. | A critic-aggregator score reflects published reviews, not the whole audience. The page is live and its score can change. |
| Audience response | The same Rotten Tomatoes snapshot showed a 69% Popcornmeter from 1,000+ ratings. | The audience score was notably lower than the critic score, so reception was not unanimous. |
| Continued production | Netflix’s June 4, 2026 guide says Season 2 is streaming and confirms Season 3 as the final season. | Renewal shows Netflix continued its investment in the series; it does not prove universal approval or reveal why the decision was made. |
Netflix defines “views” in its engagement reporting as total hours viewed divided by a title’s runtime. That is an engagement calculation, not a unique-viewer count; see Netflix’s July–December 2025 viewing report. The figures therefore support a claim of substantial reported viewing, but not a claim that 21.7 million individual people watched Season 1.

How did the anime continue after Season 1?
Netflix’s June 4, 2026 Tudum guide says Season 2 is available and centers on a war between worlds and Dante’s confrontation with his estranged twin brother, Vergil. The same guide confirms that Season 3 will be the final season. It does not establish a Season 3 premiere date, so there is no date to report here.
What the success claim does—and does not—show
- It supports: a successful reception by several visible measures—reported Netflix viewing, a high critic score in the cited snapshot, and a decision to continue the story.
- It does not support: a claim of unanimous audience approval, a precise count of distinct viewers, or proof that the anime increased sales of Capcom’s games.
- It leaves open: how Netflix weighed viewing, costs, audience feedback and other factors when it chose to continue production. The available figures do not explain that decision.
In short, “hits the jackpot” works as an interpretation of a strong combination of signals, not as a formal Netflix ranking or a claim that every metric tells the same story.
