Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End arrived on Netflix in the United States on March 1, 2025. This was the anime’s Netflix U.S. streaming debut—not the original premiere of the series, whose first season had already aired from September 2023 through March 2024 and streamed in North America through Crunchyroll.
Which anime was Netflix announcing?

Was March 1, 2025 the anime’s original premiere?
No. Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End originally aired in Japan from September 2023 through March 2024. Crunchyroll had also streamed the first season in North America and other regions.
Netflix’s date therefore represented a U.S. platform debut and catalog expansion, not the first time American viewers could legally watch the series. For Netflix subscribers who did not use Crunchyroll, however, it provided a new way to catch up through a service they already used.

What is Frieren about?
The story begins after a group of heroes has defeated the Demon King. Frieren, an elf mage with a lifespan far longer than that of humans, survives long after the party’s great adventure has ended.
As the years pass, Frieren begins to understand how little she knew about her former companions and how much time she failed to appreciate. She takes on the young mage Fern as an apprentice and travels with Stark, confronting the memories, relationships, and unfinished wishes left behind by the old hero party.
Unlike a conventional fantasy quest focused on defeating a villain, Frieren is largely concerned with what happens after the victory. Its central themes include the passage of time, grief, friendship, memory, and the difficulty of understanding the people we love before they are gone.

How many episodes were included?
Season 1 consists of 28 episodes. The available announcement confirms the season’s episode count but does not independently specify a staggered weekly rollout for Netflix. The release was for the completed first season rather than a new weekly television premiere.

What about Season 2?
