For this guide, “next week” means Monday, August 24 through Sunday, August 30, 2026, for Netflix in the United States. The week’s best bet is The Whisper Man, a crime-thriller film arriving Friday; Four Hands, Two Sonatas, a Korean coming-of-age series premiering Saturday, is the pick for viewers who want a new show. Outer Banks Season 5 arrives August 20, just before this date range.
The one to watch first: The Whisper Man
The Whisper Man arrives Friday, August 28. Netflix describes the film as a crime thriller based on Alex North’s bestselling novel: Adam Scott plays a widowed crime writer whose eight-year-old son is abducted. He turns to his estranged father, a retired detective, and the search connects them to a notorious serial-killer case. Netflix’s official title page confirms the premise and source material.
It is the week’s strongest recommendation on the information available before release—not a claim that the film has already proved a critical or audience success. Its missing-child mystery, fractured family relationship and investigative plot give it a broad thriller hook, while its feature-film format makes it an easier one-night choice than starting a series. Choose it for a crime story with family stakes; skip it if that subject matter is not for you.

This is the expected U.S. schedule, not a guarantee of availability in every country. The calendar below is drawn from TV Guide’s Netflix release listings, with the official Netflix announcement used for The Whisper Man and Four Hands, Two Sonatas. Dates can change, and some licensed titles may be region-specific.

The series alternative: Four Hands, Two Sonatas
Netflix says Four Hands, Two Sonatas premieres globally on Saturday, August 29. The Korean drama follows two gifted pianists at an elite arts high school, where friendship, rivalry, pressure and ambition shape their relationship. Song Kang plays perfection-driven Kang Pi-o; Lee Jun-young plays Choi Jeong-yo, a late-blooming musician whose difficult childhood informs his pursuit of piano. Netflix’s announcement and teaser provide the premiere date and character details.
Pick it over the film if you prefer a character-driven school drama, Korean series or music-centered story. Netflix’s announcement confirms the premiere, but does not establish whether the season will arrive all at once or on a weekly schedule.

Just outside the week: Outer Banks Season 5
Outer Banks Season 5 is scheduled for Thursday, August 20, not August 24–30. Netflix’s summer guide lists that date; TV Guide’s release calendar does too. It is a major release in the surrounding period, but belongs outside this week’s calendar. If “next week” means the next seven days from Tuesday, August 18, rather than the next Monday-to-Sunday week, the window is different: the same TV Guide calendar also lists Freefall: A Reckoning for Boeing, Here the Whole Time and Love Is Blind: UK Season 3 for August 19; Outer Banks Season 5 for August 20; and Facing El Chapo for August 21.
Release times, regions and schedule changes
- Typical timing: Netflix says its original shows and films usually become available globally at 12:00 a.m. Pacific Time—1:00 a.m. Mountain, 2:00 a.m. Central and 3:00 a.m. Eastern. Special launch times, weekly episodes and titles that are not treated as Netflix originals in a country may follow different timing. See Netflix’s release-time guidance.
- Regional availability: The calendar is for the United States. Netflix says its catalog varies by country, so check your account’s local listing rather than assuming a U.S. date applies elsewhere. Its country and discovery guidance explains how availability and browsing can differ.
- Dates can move: Netflix says expected launch dates may change because of production delays or licensing arrangements; a title may disappear from the schedule while a new date is established. Check Netflix’s upcoming-title and reminder guidance for current listings and the “Remind Me” feature.
- If a title is missing: Check the Netflix app or website for your account’s region. If it should already be available, Netflix recommends refreshing the browser or reloading or restarting the app and device; its release-time help page includes troubleshooting guidance.
Netflix’s New on Netflix listing is another place to check for current additions. A title’s presence in a third-party calendar does not guarantee that it will be available in every region.
