Netflix closed Boss Fight Entertainment, the studio behind Squid Game: Unleashed. But the studio’s closure did not mean the game was immediately discontinued: Reuters reported on October 24, 2025, that Squid Game: Unleashed and Netflix Stories would remain available at that time. That report is not a guarantee of their availability today.
What happened to Boss Fight Entertainment?
Netflix shut down Boss Fight Entertainment, a game studio Netflix acquired in 2022, according to Reuters reporting republished by Investing.com. Reuters reported the closure on October 24, 2025, citing LinkedIn posts by Boss Fight co-founder and former CEO David Rippy and game-development director David Luehmann. The report did not give a precise effective date for the closure.
Rippy wrote, “Rough news, for sure, but I’m very grateful for the time we had at Netflix.” Luehmann said, “After 10+ great years working at Boss Fight, the last few as part of Netflix, the time has come for the studio to close down.” The “10+” describes Luehmann’s time at the studio, not the number of employees affected.
Is Squid Game: Unleashed shutting down?
Not according to the contemporaneous reporting: Reuters said Squid Game: Unleashed and Netflix Stories would continue to be available after Boss Fight closed. That statement described availability at the time of the October 2025 report; it does not establish the games’ present status.

Netflix’s official support page for Squid Game: Unleashed explains how to install and play the mobile game through Netflix or an app store, and lists internet access and device storage among its requirements. Check the current Netflix app or your device’s app store for availability in your region.
Why did Netflix close the studio?
Reuters placed the closure amid a shift in Netflix’s games focus toward party, narrative, kids, and mainstream games. It did not report a company explanation establishing that shift as the cause of Boss Fight’s closure. Netflix did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment, the report said.

Netflix’s games business had earlier been described as experimental and still developing. In a March 8, 2022 investor conference transcript, CFO Spence Neumann said Netflix was learning what games members enjoyed and tracking retention and hours played. He also discussed a global mobile rollout and growth through internal development and acquisitions. This is historical context, not evidence of why Boss Fight closed in 2025.
