Netflix and the BBC have announced a new Peaky Blinders sequel series set in Birmingham in the early 1950s, after World War II. The series follows the wartime film Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man and centers on a new generation of Shelbys. Netflix says the order is for two seasons of six episodes each; its announcement gives no release date.
What is the new Peaky Blinders series?
It is a sequel series following both the original six-season show, which ended in 2022, and the feature film Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man. Netflix describes the setting as “postwar Birmingham in the early ’50s.” The plot centers on a contest over the city’s rebuilding, with the next generation of Shelbys at its heart.
Creator Steven Knight described it as “a new era of Peaky Blinders,” rooted in a city “rising from the ashes of the Birmingham blitz.”
How the sequel fits the timeline
The key distinction is that the film takes place during World War II, while the sequel series is set afterward.
