Ne Zha 2: The First Animated Film to Pass $2 Billion Worldwide

Yes. Ne Zha 2 became the first animated film to pass $2 billion at the worldwide box office, according to the figures reported by Box Office Mojo. The National Film Administration of China’s later report gives a separate official total of RMB 15.949 billion worldwide in 2025. Those totals differ by source and reporting date, so neither should be treated as a single, universally agreed figure.

How much did Ne Zha 2 make worldwide?

The latest dated official figure in the sources here is RMB 15.949 billion worldwide in 2025, reported by China’s National Film Administration in its 2026 account of the year’s animation box office. Box Office Mojo displays a higher figure: US$2,270,700,370 worldwide when accessed on October 8, 2026. Its breakdown assigns US$23,308,176 to domestic receipts and US$2,247,392,194 to international receipts, including US$2,209,602,296 for China. These are the tracker’s displayed figures, not a conversion of the administration’s RMB total. Box Office Mojo.

The two sources report different amounts, and their pages do not establish the exact accounting or currency-conversion reasons for every discrepancy. For that reason, the clearest answer to whether the film passed the milestone is yes; for a specific total, name the source and its reporting date.

Why do some record pages show less than $2 billion?

Guinness World Records lists Ne Zha 2 as the highest-grossing animated film, with worldwide receipts of RMB 14,265,482,649 (US$1,989,046,691) as of June 30, 2025. Guinness attributes that underlying figure to The Numbers. It is a dated snapshot, not evidence that the film never crossed $2 billion later. Guinness World Records.

Guinness also gives a separate China-only figure: RMB 13,967,697,245 (US$1,945,234,399) as of June 17, 2025. That is not the film’s worldwide total. The distinction matters because a domestic-market total, a worldwide total, and a tracker’s current display answer different questions.

How did the film’s box office grow beyond China?

The early figures were China-market milestones, not global totals. China’s National Film Administration reported RMB 6.7922 billion, including presales, by 9 p.m. on February 7, 2025, and more than RMB 7 billion as of February 8. Its report said the international rollout was due to begin in Australia and North America on February 13 and 14. National Film Administration of China.

The administration identifies the film by its Chinese title, 哪吒之魔童闹海, and describes it as drawing on traditional Chinese mythology. Its cultural design includes Ne Zha’s clothing, Taiyi Zhenren’s magical items, the undersea Dragon Palace, and the Kunlun setting. A24 uses the English title Ne Zha II and credits Jiao Zi as writer and director; its synopsis describes a rebellious boy feared by the gods who must face an ancient force threatening humanity. A24’s film page.

Where can you watch Ne Zha II?

A24’s “Watch Now” section lists A24, Apple TV, Amazon, Google Play, YouTube, and Fandango at Home. Availability can vary by region. The page establishes digital viewing options, but does not establish a physical DVD or Blu-ray release.
