Spoilers for the season 2 finale. Jackie tells Cole she loves him, but Alex overhears—and before anyone can address the fallout, an emergency involving George brings the scene to an abrupt end. The finale leaves both the love triangle and George’s condition unresolved.

What happens at the end of Season 2?

Cole tells Jackie he loves her, and Jackie finally says she loves him too. Alex, who has been secretly dating Jackie, is listening and hears her confession. As Cole is about to kiss Jackie, their older brother Will arrives on an ATV and ambulances respond to an incident involving their father, George. The scene cuts to black without revealing what happened to him. Netflix Tudum’s finale explainer and TheWrap’s recap both describe the arrival of the ambulance without a disclosed outcome for George.

Does Jackie choose Cole or Alex?

She confesses her love to Cole, but the finale does not show her making a settled choice between the brothers. Alex hears what she says, and the family emergency interrupts the conversation before Jackie can explain herself or the brothers can respond.

Creator Melanie Halsall describes Jackie as being in love with Cole while still loving Alex. In the finale, Cole asks why she can be around Alex but not him; Jackie admits she is afraid of losing control with Cole. Halsall’s reading is that Jackie has been trying to persuade herself she does not love Cole because loving Alex feels easier. That is the creator’s interpretation of Jackie’s feelings, not a declaration that her relationship with either brother is resolved. Ashby Gentry, who plays Alex, has said both brothers are entitled to an explanation from Jackie, while she is entitled to her feelings. Netflix Tudum’s interview and explanation discusses those perspectives.

What happened to George?

Season 2 does not reveal George’s condition. The finale establishes that an emergency has happened and shows ambulances arriving, then ends. It does not identify a diagnosis, explain the incident, or say whether George survives. Treat any more specific account as information from outside the season 2 ending, not something the finale itself confirms.

Why does the finale cut off before Jackie and Cole can talk?

Halsall says she was building toward both the love-triangle confrontation and a major family crisis involving George. The emergency therefore suspends two storylines at once: Jackie’s honesty with Alex and Cole, and the family’s fear for George. The interruption leaves the romance unanswered; it does not undo Jackie’s confession. As Halsall put it, “The audience are going to be desperate for the next line of that conversation.” Netflix Tudum’s explanation includes her comments on the cliffhanger.

Season 3 context: what the Season 2 finale leaves open

Season 3 spoiler context: Netflix’s official series synopsis frames season 3 around the fallout from Alex overhearing Jackie’s confession and George being rushed to hospital. That later-season framing supplies context beyond the season 2 cut to black; it should not be mistaken for information viewers receive in the finale itself. Netflix’s season 3 page describes that setup.

Is the series based on a book?

Yes. Netflix identifies My Life with the Walter Boys as based on Ali Novak’s novel. The book is useful background for readers interested in the series’ source material, but its existence does not mean it contains the show’s season 2 finale. Netflix’s series information confirms the connection.
