My Hero Academia’s 2024 “major production update” was the announcement of an eighth and final season, not a new announcement today. The TV series has since concluded: its finale was episode No. 170, followed by the 2026 special “More,” which adapts the manga’s additional chapter 431.
What happened after the My Hero Academia finale?
The TV anime’s final episode, No. 170, covered the story through manga chapter 430. In December 2025, the official anime site announced an adaptation of Kohei Horikoshi’s additional chapter No. 431, titled “More,” which appears in the manga’s final, 42nd volume. The special aired as episode No. 170+1 on May 2, 2026.
Set eight years after Class 1-A graduates from U.A., “More” follows Izuku Midoriya as he works as a U.A. teacher while also operating in armor. Former classmates including Bakugo and Todoroki are professional heroes, while Ochaco works in Quirk counseling and has recurring dreams about Toga. The official episode page provides the date and synopsis.
Is there another episode after the final season?
Yes. “More” is a special episode numbered No. 170+1, rather than a new season. It adapts chapter 431, extending the anime beyond the chapter 430 material covered by episode No. 170. The official announcement confirms the chapter and its publication in Volume 42: the December 20, 2025 notice.

The headline “My Hero Academia Announces Major Production Update With Shock Finale” dates to October 12, 2024. It referred to the announcement, after Season 7’s final episode, that the anime would return for its eighth and final season in 2025. It is historical context, not a current production announcement.
