My Dress-Up Darling is a Japanese live-action television adaptation of Shinichi Fukuda’s manga, not a new anime season. Riko Nagase plays Marin Kitagawa and Kota Nomura plays Wakana Gojo. The series began airing in Japan on October 8, 2024; current availability outside Japan is not established by the broadcaster’s listings.
What the first-look reveal showed
MBS announced the live-action adaptation on August 30, 2024, then revealed a poster and added cast information on September 18. The first-look report from ComicBook.com, published September 18, 2024, described the series as in production and reported the Japanese premiere date. The project adapts Fukuda’s manga, originally published in Square Enix’s Young Gangan. MBS’s official series page identifies the television project and its source material.
Who plays Marin and Gojo?
Riko Nagase plays Marin Kitagawa, and Kota Nomura plays Wakana Gojo. MBS lists these additional cast members:
- Akana Ikeda as Sajuna Inui
- Kokoro Toyoshima as Shinju Inui
- Taichi Shiozaki as Chitose Amano
- Meikyo Yamada as Kaoru Gojo
The official synopsis introduces Gojo as a high-school student training to become a kashirashi, a craftsman who makes faces for hina dolls. Because his interests set him apart from classmates, he has difficulty fitting in. Marin, a popular classmate who loves anime, games, manga and cosplay, discovers his skill and asks him to make costumes. Their relationship develops through the work they share. This is the premise MBS gives for the live-action series; it does not establish how the adaptation compares in quality with the manga or anime.

The live-action series adapts Fukuda’s manga; it is not a continuation or new season of the anime. MBS describes the manga as a Young Gangan title published by Square Enix and says it has exceeded 11 million copies in circulation. The displayed page does not date that circulation figure, so it should not be read as a current sales total. MBS’s introduction to the series and source manga also notes manga awards in 2019 and 2020.
