What happened at Bran Nue Dae Under the Stars?
The event was held at Yagan Square Amphitheatre in Perth on Thursday, 10 July 2025. The official NAIDOC listing described an evening of music, film and storytelling; Visit Perth listed the program from 5:30 to 8:30 pm and described it as free and family-friendly. The City of Perth included the screening in its NAIDOC Week celebrations, which it said marked the 50th year of NAIDOC Week in 2025.
Before the film screening, Dingo spoke with Walleystack about the production and its significance. Live music and performances by local First Nations artists were also part of the evening. Post-event coverage named Boss Arts Creative artists and the Goolamwiin Dancers among the performers.
Why Ernie Dingo was part of the conversation
Dingo was an original cast member of the stage production, playing Uncle Tadpole, according to PerthNow’s preview published on 7 July 2025. The film, a 2009 musical comedy, drew on the stage production; the event conversation considered what the story meant to Dingo, the community and Aboriginal storytelling.
