Spoilers for the Final War, Bakugo’s return, and the completed manga.
Yes, with an important qualification: Edgeshot’s sacrifice is right by the story’s heroic logic because it saves Bakugo and helps return him to the fight. Bakugo’s own Quirk then triggers his awakening, so the rescue does not erase his agency. But a successful outcome cannot settle whether the scene earns its emotional cost; its setup and aftermath remain fair grounds for criticism.
What happens in Edgeshot’s rescue of Bakugo?
In the Final War, Shigaraki’s attack leaves Bakugo’s heart stopped. Edgeshot attempts a desperate rescue, and Bakugo eventually stands when his Explosion Quirk triggers. The official synopsis for anime episode 162 describes those events; the episode aired October 18, 2025. It establishes what happens in the fictional story, not whether the mechanism is medically plausible.

Why the sacrifice is the right decision in the story
It changes the immediate outcome
Edgeshot’s intervention is not merely a symbolic gesture: the official episode synopsis presents it as the rescue after Bakugo’s heart stops. Bakugo’s later awakening makes the choice consequential. That gives the sacrifice instrumental value within the plot, even though the outcome alone does not prove the scene is perfectly executed.
Bakugo still has a part in his return
The account of Bakugo standing when his own Explosion Quirk triggers gives him a role in the moment of return. Edgeshot creates the chance for survival; Bakugo’s power is part of what brings him back into action. That balance makes the rescue feel less like a veteran simply restoring a younger hero to the board.

It frames heroism as making room for the future
Shueisha’s publisher synopsis for Volume 37 frames the battle around refusing to give up on Dynamight and Edgeshot and connecting the future through one’s actions. Read as a thematic choice, Edgeshot’s act is a veteran putting a younger hero’s future ahead of his own prospects. That reading is supported by the volume’s framing, but it should not be mistaken for a direct statement of creator intent.
Bakugo’s survival also matters beyond the immediate rescue: he returns to the story rather than being saved only to disappear from the conflict. The completed manga’s publication context confirms that the story continues through its final chapters and epilogue, but publication listings do not, by themselves, establish how fully the narrative recognizes the cost of Edgeshot’s choice.

What makes the scene open to criticism?
The emotional groundwork may feel thin
A reader can accept Edgeshot’s willingness to risk everything and still feel the story has not prepared the emotional connection enough. If the sacrifice feels sudden, its moral clarity may land more strongly than its personal weight. That is a judgment about the scene’s setup, not an objective measure of its quality.
The mechanism can feel abrupt or convenient
The rescue is extraordinary even within a superpower story. Its emotional premise and its mechanics are separate questions: accepting that Edgeshot would make the attempt does not require finding the explanation convincing. The official synopsis reports the fictional event; it does not establish real-world medical plausibility.

The sacrifice needs meaningful aftermath
To judge whether the cost receives enough recognition, read beyond the rescue and Bakugo’s return. The manga is complete: Shueisha lists Volume 42 as the final volume, collecting chapters 423–431, including the epilogue. - Life-saving result: Does the story present the intervention as saving Bakugo? The official episode synopsis says it does.
- Agency: Does Bakugo contribute to his own return? The synopsis says his Quirk triggers when he stands.
- Cost and reciprocity: Does the story give enough space to what Edgeshot loses and how Bakugo responds? That is an interpretive judgment to make from the completed manga.
- Setup and theme: Does the sacrifice feel emotionally prepared, and does it connect to the series’ treatment of heroism and the future? Volume 37’s publisher synopsis supplies that thematic frame, but readers can still disagree about the scene’s execution.
Verdict
Edgeshot’s choice is right in its immediate purpose and consistent with the story’s intergenerational idea of heroism: he gives Bakugo a chance to live, and Bakugo’s own power helps carry that chance forward. Whether the scene fully earns the sacrifice is a separate question. Its abruptness, emotional preparation, and treatment of the cost can remain shortcomings even when the decision itself makes sense.
