Tomura Shigaraki is the villain whose Quirk is Decay and whose defining belief is that everything should be destroyed. The official character profile says he is Nana Shimura’s grandson, killed his family with his Quirk as a child, and was later raised by All For One as a successor. It also says enhancement surgery gave him multiple Quirks All For One had possessed and power comparable to All Might in his prime. Manga spoilers follow for Shigaraki’s identity and childhood; the profile provides a broad outline, not a full account of later revelations or every power mechanic.
Who is Tomura Shigaraki?
Tomura Shigaraki is a central villain in My Hero Academia. His original name is Tenko Shimura, and he is the grandson of Nana Shimura, the seventh successor of One For All. The official Yomiuri TV character profile identifies him as a man who believes in destroying everything and says that, as a child, he killed his family with his Quirk. Yomiuri TV’s official character profile also lists his birthday as April 4 and his height as 175 cm.
What are Shigaraki’s powers?
Decay
Decay is the name of Shigaraki’s Quirk in the official profile. The page links his childhood family deaths to the Quirk, but does not specify its precise activation condition, range, area of effect, limitations, or how it develops later in the story. Those details should be treated as manga-specific rather than inferred from the profile alone.
Additional Quirks and enhanced power
The profile says a doctor’s enhancement surgery gave Shigaraki multiple Quirks that All For One had possessed, as well as power on the level of All Might in his prime. It does not list those Quirks or explain the procedure’s limitations. The profile therefore establishes a dramatic increase in his abilities without serving as a complete power inventory.

How did Tenko Shimura become Shigaraki?
The profile supports a concise sequence: Tenko, Nana Shimura’s grandson, killed his family with his Quirk during childhood; All For One then raised him as a successor. The source does not by itself explain every event surrounding the tragedy or establish the full extent of All For One’s involvement in shaping Tenko’s life. Readers seeking those revelations should consult the manga, where the backstory is developed beyond the profile’s short summary.
Why does Shigaraki matter in the story?
My Hero Academia takes place in a world where people commonly have Quirks, and heroes confront villains who misuse their abilities. The official anime introduction describes roughly 80 percent of the fictional population as having a Quirk; that figure is worldbuilding, not a real-world statistic. Against that setting, Shigaraki’s destructive outlook makes him a central antagonist. One possible reading is that his story also asks what happens when a child’s suffering is met with manipulation rather than protection; that is an interpretation of the narrative, not a statement made by the official profile.
