This is a dated 2020 in-universe snapshot—not an all-time measure of fighting strength or a claim about the latest chart. The chart establishes public standing; the commentary below also considers documented contribution, versatility, and character arc, without treating those qualities as a published score.
What “best” means in this ranking
The official anime site announced the episode 87 top five on March 29, 2020: Endeavor at No. 1, followed by Hawks, Best Jeanist, Edge Shot, and Mirko. That is the clearest consistent yardstick available for a ranked list, but chart position and combat power are not interchangeable. A chart measures in-universe standing; a critical comparison can also consider case record, combat versatility, rescue work, public trust, and character development.
A fan-maintained overview describes multiple factors behind the chart, but that is secondary context rather than an official scoring formula. No universal “best hero” score or verified official popularity statistic is established here. The analysis therefore keeps the official order and separates it from editorial observations.
The top five Pro Heroes
| Rank | Hero | What the ranking establishes | Why the placement matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Endeavor | The official episode 87 announcement names him No. 1. His Quirk is Hellflame, according to his official Yomiuri TV profile. | His standing is reinforced by a substantial case record: Bandai Namco’s official character profile describes him as having resolved the most cases in history, without giving a numeric total. His story also turns toward the difficult work of becoming a hero his family can be proud of after All Might’s retirement. |
| 2 | Hawks | The official announcement places him No. 2. | He is second by the chart’s in-universe measure. This source set does not provide a comparable case total or a complete official breakdown of the chart’s scoring, so the rank should not be translated into a precise strength gap with Endeavor. |
| 3 | Best Jeanist | The official announcement places him No. 3. | His chart position makes him one of the leading heroes in this episode-era snapshot. The available official profile result does not support adding detailed claims about his record or abilities here. |
| 4 | Edge Shot | The official announcement places him No. 4. | The chart recognizes him among the top five, but the documented material here does not provide comparable case statistics or an official combat assessment. |
| 5 | Mirko | The official announcement places her No. 5. | Her inclusion rounds out this official top five. That placement establishes standing at the time, not a definitive ranking of her individual fighting ability against every other Pro Hero. |
1. Endeavor
Endeavor is the official No. 1 in the episode 87 chart announcement. Yomiuri TV’s profile identifies his Quirk as Hellflame and frames his post–All Might retirement story around trying to become a hero his family can be proud of. That change in purpose makes his rank narratively significant: the chart’s leading figure is also a character confronting what heroism means beyond professional achievement.
#1 Best Overall
- MHA Fandom: Midoriya inherits the superpower of the world’s greatest hero, but greatness won’t come easy.
- Includes: The first 20 volumes of the bestselling My Hero Academia manga.
- Format: Softcover, 3840 pages.
Bandai Namco’s official profile adds a distinct measure of contribution, describing Endeavor as having resolved the most cases in history. It does not state a count, so the claim supports a qualitative distinction, not a numerical comparison with the other four.
2. Hawks
Hawks holds the second position in the dated official order. That establishes his place immediately behind Endeavor in this chart snapshot, but it does not demonstrate that he is exactly second in combat strength, case volume, or every other measure of hero performance. Those are separate questions, and the chart announcement does not supply enough methodology to collapse them into one.
3. Best Jeanist
Best Jeanist ranks third in the episode 87 announcement. The result places him ahead of Edge Shot and Mirko in that in-universe assessment. Because the available official profile material does not support more detailed claims about his cases or abilities, the strongest grounded case for his inclusion is the chart placement itself.
4. Edge Shot
Edge Shot is fourth in the announced top five. His position indicates substantial standing among Pro Heroes at that point in the story, but it is not an independently verified measure of relative combat capability. The chart order is useful for answering who ranked above whom; it should not be mistaken for a complete performance analysis.

Mirko completes the official top five at No. 5. Her inclusion makes her one of the five highest-ranked heroes in this dated chart, while leaving open how she would compare under a different lens such as rescue outcomes, public preference, or a direct combat comparison.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why this is not a current or definitive all-time ranking
The official list cited here is specifically the episode 87-era announcement from March 29, 2020. Later story developments can change a reader’s preferred ordering, and a secondary fan-maintained chart overview discusses later story-era placements, but it is mutable and does not establish a current official full chart. This article therefore does not blend later continuity into the 2020 list or present it as the latest ranking.
Rank #4
Likewise, the official announcement gives positions, not a full public formula. Treating combat, case record, rescue, trust, and character growth as separate lenses avoids claiming that chart rank proves a hero is objectively the strongest or most admirable. If “best” means official standing, this top five answers the question; if it means personal favorite or strongest fighter, the answer depends on a different criterion.
