Why some listings say Season 8, Episode 6 and others say Episode 165
Both numbers refer to the same episode:
- Season 8, Episode 6 is the seasonal numbering used by many databases and streaming interfaces.
- Episode 165 is the overall series number used by the official Japanese episode listing.
The official FINAL SEASON episode list places Episode 165 after Episode 164, “History’s Greatest Villain,” and before Episode 166, “From Aizawa.” Season 8 was marketed officially as the FINAL SEASON. It ultimately contained 11 regular episodes, with Episode 170 serving as the televised series finale.
What happens in Episode 165?
Spoiler-light synopsis: Episode 165 focuses on Izuku Midoriya’s attempt to break through to Tomura Shigaraki from inside Shigaraki’s damaged psyche. Midoriya’s plan involves transferring One For All into that mental space and exploiting the wound previously created by Star and Stripe.

During the effort, Midoriya uses Blackwhip in an “Overlay” state. Class 1-A and the evacuees observe the struggle and encourage the battle, giving the episode a strong emotional connection to the people Midoriya and the other heroes are fighting to protect.
Spoiler warning: The following details go beyond the basic premise and may reveal important developments from Episode 165.
The episode’s central conflict
Rather than presenting the confrontation as only a physical clash, the episode makes Shigaraki’s inner damage part of the battlefield. Midoriya is trying to reach the person buried beneath Shigaraki’s accumulated hatred and power, while the damage inflicted by Star and Stripe becomes a potential opening for One For All.
The “Overlay” use of Blackwhip is important because it shows Midoriya adapting his abilities to an unusual and highly dangerous situation. The support of Class 1-A and the evacuees also reinforces the wider stakes: this is not simply Midoriya’s private confrontation, but a fight watched and emotionally shared by the people connected to the final battle.
