The post said, “Happy Birthday MrBeast!” Futurism estimated the promotion could have cost $15,340 to $88,500 in its first six hours, but the report did not establish what he actually paid.
What MrBeast’s birthday ad said
Jimmy Donaldson, known online as MrBeast, ran an advertising campaign on X to promote a post marking his 27th birthday, Joe Wilkins reported for Futurism on May 7, 2025. The post’s entire message was: “Happy Birthday MrBeast!” The report said it appeared with an ad label, identifying it as paid promotion.
How much did the ad cost?
Futurism estimated a first-six-hour cost of $15,340–$88,500. That figure was a calculation, not a confirmed payment: the report did not disclose an invoice, billing basis, negotiated rate, or special arrangement for the post. It cited a typical promoted-ad cost range of $0.26–$1.50 per action, attributed to WebFX, and applied that range to the reported engagement. The underlying WebFX page and the campaign’s actual billing were not established in the report. The estimate should not be read as MrBeast’s actual spend or as a statement of current X ad rates.
Engagement reported in the first six hours
At publication, Futurism reported nearly 2.5 million views in just under six hours, along with more than 49,000 likes, 6,500 comments, and 3,500 retweets. These are figures reported at that time, not current totals.

Reactions ranged from birthday wishes to criticism
Wilkins described replies that included congratulations as well as criticism. One reply asked, “Did you really buy an ad so people can say happy birthday to you?” and followed with, “Is that like not weird to you?” Those examples show the range of reactions cited in the report; they do not measure the sentiment of everyone who saw the post.
How this differs from earlier reports of boosted posts
Futurism also recalled 2023 coverage alleging that MrBeast was among accounts whose posts were secretly boosted after Elon Musk took over the platform. That earlier reporting concerns a different episode. The birthday post described in May 2025 was visibly labeled as an ad, so it should not be conflated with claims about undisclosed boosting.
