Mr. Fantasy performed at the 99th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on November 27, 2025, appearing in pirate costume aboard the Jolly Polly Pirate Ship and debuting his song “Catapult.” The performance drew online attention and was described as viral, but the available discussions show mixed reactions—not a measured or universal internet response.
What Mr. Fantasy did at the parade
Macy’s listed Mr. Fantasy among the parade’s musical and dance performers. In its November 27, 2025 report, The Independent said he performed in pirate costume on the Jolly Polly Pirate Ship and debuted “Catapult.” The report described him as having gone viral after the appearance.
The Independent also reported that his first TikTok post was in August 2025 and that he reached one million followers in about three months. That is a figure from the 2025 reporting period, not a current follower count.
Did the internet really “melt down”?
“The internet melts down” makes a punchy headline, but it overstates what the available evidence can show. The Independent characterized the performance as viral; no independent audience survey or platform reach measurement establishes how many people saw it or what the overall response was.

Comments in two Reddit discussions illustrate a range of reactions. In r/macysparade, commenters expressed curiosity, compared him with Matteo Bocelli, and questioned the booking. A separate r/thanksgiving discussion included criticism of his brief performance amid wider debate about the parade’s music, commentary, bands, and floats. These are individual comments, not a representative poll.
Who is Mr. Fantasy?
The Independent’s 2025 account describes Mr. Fantasy as a performer whose TikTok presence grew rapidly in the months before the parade. The sources cited here do not confirm that he is actor KJ Apa. That identification has circulated as speculation, but it should not be treated as established fact.

Macy’s executive producer Will Coss described the parade as “the official kickoff to the holiday season” and said it had been part of the nation’s stories and traditions for generations. That is Macy’s characterization of the event.

The available coverage connects the attention to a distinctive pirate-ship performance, the debut of “Catapult,” and the speed of Mr. Fantasy’s TikTok growth as reported in 2025. What it does not establish is a single public verdict: the sampled comments include both interest and criticism, and cannot speak for everyone watching online.
