“Free” is not the same as “free to use”
There are several different meanings of “free”:

Free Music Archive and open licenses
Free Music Archive is more suitable when the goal is discovering music offered under open licenses. “Open-licensed” does not mean that every track can be used for every purpose. Before downloading or publishing a track, open its item-level license and check:
- Whether attribution is required and what information must be supplied;
- Whether commercial use is allowed;
- Whether editing, sampling, remixing, or other derivatives are allowed;
- Whether a share-alike condition applies; and

Creative Commons is a licensing system, not a guarantee that every search result is authentic or correctly labeled. A CC BY track, for example, generally involves attribution; a license containing NC restricts commercial use; ND restricts derivative versions; and SA can require adaptations to be shared under compatible terms. The exact deed and any applicable additional terms should be read before use.
Internet Archive contains many valuable public-domain, live, and archival recordings, but rights statements vary by item. A collection’s overall reputation cannot replace an item-level rights check. Also remember that a musical composition, a particular studio recording, a live performance, and artwork may have separate rights.
Streaming with offline playback
Authorized streaming platforms can be the simplest option for listening without an internet connection.
