Mortal Kombat II did move from its planned October 2025 release to May 2026, but that is no longer the current status: the film opened in North American theaters and IMAX on May 8, 2026, with international release beginning May 6. The official site now lists digital and 4K Ultra HD availability.
When did Mortal Kombat II come out?
The movie was originally scheduled for October 24, 2025. Warner Bros. and New Line first moved it to May 15, 2026, before the official release information set May 8, 2026, for North American theaters and IMAX, and May 6 for the start of international release. TheWrap reported the initial schedule change; the official movie site lists the final dates and current home-viewing formats.

May 8 falls in meteorological spring in the Northern Hemisphere, but the studio promoted the date as the start of the summer movie season. The dated release information is more precise than either seasonal description.
Why was Mortal Kombat II delayed?
The report on the August 2025 move does not give a specific reason for the change, so a confirmed production, marketing, or strategic cause is not established. In October 2025, director Simon McQuoid described the May slot as a summer launch: “We’ve created a massive summer blockbuster. We should be proud of the fact that Mortal Kombat as the movie and the franchise is just gonna kick off summer next year.” That was his characterization of the scheduled release, not an explanation for the original postponement. GamesRadar+ reported his comment.

Where can you watch Mortal Kombat II?
The official movie site lists the film in digital formats and on 4K Ultra HD disc; retailer availability may differ by territory. Streaming availability is also regional: Warner Bros. Discovery announced a July 24, 2026 HBO Max premiere in Serbia. That date applies to Serbia, not to a global streaming launch. Warner Bros. Discovery’s Serbia announcement gives that territory-specific date.
