Country singer Morgan Wade said she underwent a preventative double mastectomy and reconstruction in November 2023. In a March 2024 update, she described returning to exercise, adjusting to her changed appearance and feeling certain she made the right choice. Her account was personal; it does not establish her current medical status or predict another patient’s recovery.
Wade’s update was reported from an Instagram post and contemporaneous coverage by Yahoo’s republished People report and iHeartCountry.

Why Morgan Wade said she chose preventive surgery
According to the March 2024 reports, Wade cited a RAD51D mutation and a family history of breast cancer when explaining her decision. The reports do not provide a personalized genetic-risk assessment or a clinician’s statement about her care.
Yahoo’s report attributed a 20–40% lifetime breast-cancer risk estimate for RAD51D mutation carriers to Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered (FORCE). That figure is an organizational estimate relayed through secondary reporting, not Wade’s individual risk calculation.

What Wade said about her recovery
Wade said she had not previously discussed her recovery from the operation and reconstruction. In the caption reproduced by Yahoo/People, she wrote: “I haven’t talked much about my post surgery recovery from my double mastectomy and reconstruction I had back in November.”
Her reported activity timeline
Wade described the following as her own return to activity, rather than a standard timetable:
Rank #2
| Activity or milestone | What Wade reported |
|---|---|
| Powerlifting and running | She said she had resumed them around January 2024. |
| Push-ups and pull-ups | She said she had returned to these more recently by the March update. |
| Massages | She also said she had resumed massages. |
Neither the reports nor Wade’s post should be read as medical clearance for exercise or as a benchmark for someone else. Recovery after mastectomy and reconstruction varies with the procedure, complications and medical advice.
How Wade described the physical and emotional changes
Wade said she had implants and was happy with them. She also said she did not have nipples after surgery. Describing the visual adjustment, she wrote: “It was an adjustment to look at myself for a minute. I’m still adjusting to how different my body looks — change is never easy — but this was worth it.”
Rank #3
Her clearest conclusion was: “I have 0 regrets and I am extremely happy with the choice I made.” She had also told People in December, as quoted by Yahoo, “I would rather have done all this and never know if I was going to get breast cancer or not.” These are Wade’s statements about her own decision, not an endorsement of preventive mastectomy for everyone with inherited risk.
Plans Wade mentioned for the future
In the March coverage, Wade said egg retrieval was her next process and mentioned a hysterectomy and oophorectomy as later plans. Those were intentions reported at that time. The available coverage does not verify whether any of those procedures subsequently occurred.

What the reports do—and do not—establish
- Wade said the mastectomy and reconstruction took place in November 2023.
- She publicly discussed the recovery in March 2024.
- She linked the preventive decision to a reported RAD51D mutation and family history of breast cancer.
- She described returning to selected exercise and massage, and said she was happy with her implants.
- She said she was still adjusting to her appearance and had no regrets.
- The reports do not establish her present health, present recovery, or completion of the future procedures she mentioned.
Because the coverage recounts Wade’s social-media post rather than medical records, it should be understood as an account of her experience. Anyone considering risk-reducing surgery needs individualized advice from qualified clinicians and genetic counselors.
