It was not a complete baseball package: YouTube TV did not carry MLB Network or MLB.TV, and Apple TV+ and Roku exclusives required separate access. Whether you could watch your local team depended on your YouTube TV home area, ZIP code and the team’s broadcast rights.
What MLB coverage YouTube TV included
YouTube TV’s baseball coverage came from the channels in your plan and market, not from a single MLB pass. Its sports guidance explains that games may appear on national networks, local affiliates or RSNs, with availability determined by location: YouTube TV’s sports availability guidance.
| Game category | Could YouTube TV carry it? | What determined access |
|---|---|---|
| National FOX games | Usually | Your local FOX affiliate had to be available. |
| FS1 games | Usually | FS1 had to be included in your plan and market. |
| ESPN games | Usually | ESPN channel availability and the specific rights window. |
| TBS games | Usually | TBS availability in your plan and market. |
| Local team broadcasts | Sometimes | Your local affiliate or RSN had to be carried for your ZIP code. |
| MLB Network games | No | YouTube TV did not carry MLB Network during the 2024 season. |
| MLB.TV out-of-market games | No | MLB.TV was a separate subscription. |
| Apple TV+ exclusives | No | Those games streamed through Apple TV+. |
| Roku Sunday Leadoff | No through YouTube TV | The 2024 package streamed on The Roku Channel or through MLB.TV. |
| Postseason games on FOX, FS1, TBS or ESPN | Many | The relevant network and local affiliate had to be available. |
Having FOX, ESPN, FS1 or TBS does not mean every game on that network was available in every location. YouTube TV’s channel lineup is ZIP-code dependent; check the official availability page before subscribing.
What YouTube TV did not include
MLB Network
YouTube TV dropped MLB Network in January 2023 and did not restore it for the 2024 season. That removed MLB Network Showcase games, MLB Central, Quick Pitch, studio analysis and other network programming, while leaving baseball on the other national and local channels. Contemporary subscriber notices documented the removal (subscriber notice reference).

MLB.TV
MLB.TV was not bundled with YouTube TV. It was MLB’s separate service for live and on-demand out-of-market games. Local blackouts and national exclusivity still applied, as MLB explains at its blackout and overlap page. Therefore, MLB.TV was not a guaranteed way to watch a local team or every nationally exclusive broadcast.
Streaming-only games
Apple TV+ carried exclusive Friday Night Baseball games in 2024, so those games were unavailable through YouTube TV. Use MLB’s 2024 national broadcast schedule to identify the named service for a particular date.
Roku’s MLB Sunday Leadoff package began May 19, 2024 and comprised 18 Sunday games. The games were free through The Roku Channel, and a Roku device was not required (Roku’s MLB information). MLB.TV subscribers could also watch those games without blackouts under MLB’s announcement (this announcement.

Could you watch your local team?
That depended on the team’s rights arrangement and your YouTube TV home area. A local game might be on a broadcast affiliate, an RSN, a team-owned direct-to-consumer service, a national network or a platform-exclusive stream. YouTube TV says RSN availability is tied to the subscriber’s home area and recommends checking by ZIP code (channel availability details).

Living in a team’s city is not enough by itself. YouTube TV may not carry that team’s RSN, or a particular game may have moved to a national or streaming-exclusive outlet. The relevant test is whether the network has carriage rights in your YouTube TV home area.
MLB Network versus MLB.TV
These names describe different products:
| Service | Main purpose | 2024 YouTube TV relationship |
|---|---|---|
| MLB Network | A national baseball channel with live games, news and studio shows. | Not carried by YouTube TV. |
| MLB.TV | Out-of-market live and on-demand games, subject to blackouts and exclusivity. | Separate subscription; not included. |
On July 24, 2024, MLB launched U.S. standalone MLB Network streaming at $5.99 per month, or $6.99 per month with At Bat. MLB.TV subscribers received MLB Network access for the remainder of the 2024 season under the announced terms. See MLB’s announcement. This product supplied MLB Network programming; it was not a substitute for the full MLB.TV out-of-market game package.

How to check a specific game
- Open the team’s official schedule and note the listed broadcaster.
- Classify the listing as FOX, FS1, ESPN, TBS, a local station, an RSN, MLB Network, Apple TV+, Roku or another outlet.
- Enter your ZIP code on YouTube TV’s channel availability page and confirm the local affiliate or RSN.
- Search for the game or team in YouTube TV and verify the network shown in the listing.
- Add the game or team to YouTube TV’s unlimited DVR when the channel is available.
- If the listing names Apple TV+, Roku or another service, use that service instead; DVR cannot overcome a channel-rights restriction.
Travel can change what you see. YouTube TV ties RSN access to your home area, while local affiliate programming can depend on your current location; national networks are generally available while traveling in the United States. These rules are described in YouTube TV’s sports and travel guidance. Travel also does not remove MLB.TV blackout rules.
What YouTube TV cost in 2024
The commonly reported standard YouTube TV base-plan price during the 2024 season was $72.99 per month, following the increase implemented in 2023. That is a historical price, not a current quote; taxes, promotions, legacy rates and later changes could differ. The period price is documented in contemporary reporting at this subscriber reference. For the service itself, see YouTube TV’s official site.

Is YouTube TV good value for baseball?
Local-team fan
It can work if your local affiliate or RSN is carried and you also want ESPN, FOX, FS1, TBS and general live television. It is a poor fit if your team’s RSN is unavailable or MLB Network is essential.

- Long-range Wi-Fi: Enjoy fast, smooth TV streaming in any room with a strong Wi-Fi connection, now up to 2x faster
- No more juggling remotes: Power up your TV, adjust the volume, and control your Roku Streaming Stick with the Roku remote

Out-of-market fan
YouTube TV alone is generally insufficient. The practical combination is YouTube TV for national and ordinary live-TV channels plus MLB.TV for out-of-market games, with blackout and exclusivity limits still applying.
Casual viewer
YouTube TV may be reasonable if you already want its broader channel lineup. Buying it solely for baseball is harder to justify because MLB Network and MLB.TV were separate and some games required Apple TV+ or Roku.
MLB Network viewer
YouTube TV was not a suitable single provider in 2024. Consider MLB’s standalone MLB Network option or a live-TV provider that carried the channel, verifying the provider’s historical lineup and market rules.
Best Value
- Ultra-speedy streaming: Roku Ultra is 30% faster than any other Roku player, delivering a lightning-fast interface and apps that launch in a snap.
- Cinematic streaming: This TV streaming device brings the movie theater to your living room with spectacular 4K, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision picture alongside immersive Dolby Atmos audio.
- The ultimate Roku remote: The rechargeable Roku Voice Remote Pro offers backlit buttons, hands-free voice controls, and a lost remote finder.
- No more fumbling in the dark: See what you’re pressing with backlit buttons.
- Say goodbye to batteries: Keep your remote powered for months on a single charge.
Postseason viewer
YouTube TV was more useful in October because many postseason games aired on FOX, FS1, TBS or ESPN. Confirm the exact network and local affiliate for each game.
Possible service combinations
| Goal | Most relevant setup | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|
| National games and general live TV | YouTube TV | Market-dependent locals and RSNs; no MLB Network. |
| Out-of-market team | YouTube TV plus MLB.TV | Local blackouts and national exclusives remain. |
| MLB Network programming | MLB Network standalone option or a provider carrying it | Not a complete out-of-market game package. |
| Occasional Sunday Leadoff games in 2024 | The Roku Channel | Only the 18-game package, not a full season. |
| Apple-exclusive Friday games | Apple TV+ (official service) | Only the games assigned to Apple TV+. |
Other live-TV providers, including Fubo, Hulu + Live TV, DIRECTV STREAM and Sling TV, had different channel and RSN policies. Their value depended on your ZIP code, MLB Network availability, national networks, regional-sports fees and whether you still needed MLB.TV.
Quick Recap
The practical 2024 verdict
